3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ibrew2or3 (4914) - Phoenix, USA - JUN 8, 2008
Growler brought down to FL by my sister. Pours dark dark brown with brown edges and light mocha head. The aroma comes across as mild at times and then surges up briefly bringing roasty to mildly burnt malts and a hint of nuttiness. The taste seems sessionable, smooth and pretty tasty with burnt to roasty malts that mingle together and grow some to midway. It kind of thins out as the finish draws and the flavor blend of roasty to burnt malts recedes. Not exactly the Perfect Porter as the name may suggest.

Nitro draft at Dragonmead. Smooth beer all around and I enjoyed very much. Good finish... better than I remember from previous visits.

Sample at the brewpub. Black pour with a big tan nitro head. Very dry and roasty aroma that is also slightly vegetal. Bready malt flavor with molasses and some roast on the back end.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RAYBOY01 (2005) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 19, 2009
On tap @ Hop Cat, Grand Rapids: Dark brown pour with brown creamy head. Nose is chocolate and vanilla, with hints of roasted coffee beans and nuts... Flavors are chocolate, coffee, nuts, touch of a hint of a suggestion of smoke, and creamy vanilla. Licorice seems to dance around upfront and then again in the finish. A bit too thin-bodied for my liking.

Courtesy of Ibrew2or3. Muted coffee, clay, dust. Dark brown with a wispy tan head. Coffee, clay and muddled with that general earthy messy flavor many Dragonmead beers have.

Growler courtesy Ibrew2or3. Pours black with a large mostly lasting tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and a hint of papery oxidation. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good.

On tap @ the brew pub: Pours a dark brown with a big tan head. Aroma, chocolate, some coffee, kinda weak. Flavor, roasted notes, chocolate, some caramel, but it’s on nitro and loses something.
