4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - JAN 21, 2006
Enjoyed this many times while visiting the brewery. Fantastic aroma of malts, hops, citrus and floral characters come thru easily. An incredible balance of hops and malt make this too damned easy to drink. It’s like it’s on steriods or something because it smells and tastes like an IPA. It takes some serious talent to make this and keep the ABV this low. This is truly a great beer from a talented brewer.

Tasted on tap at the brewery. A medium orange gold colored pale ale. Small head with excellent lacing. Aroma is malty, citrusy and floral hops. A medium bodied pale ale. Malts are fruity, caramel, orange and pineapple. Hops are rather aggressive. Lots of grapefruit, citrusy and pine. Nice balance. It has the fruitiness of a Pale Ale with the hoppiness of a West Coast IPA. Would make a great session beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2005 Bready and semi sweet malt profile with a very citrusy nose and good bittering very nice twist on the west coast pale, almost a baby IPA with a very fresh hop character that makes your mouth water before your first pleasnat sip. My new fave session beer. the hop profile is perfect in this beer.

On tap at Liar’s Club: Beer pours dark honey holden with totally retained off white head. Aroma is very fresh green hops. Flavor is citrically hoppy with an enjoyable malt sweetness. More of an IPA than a pale, but who’s quibbling about styles anyway. Enjoyable beer.

On tap at O’Briens, listed as "Batch 1500 Imperial Pale": Pours a transparent deep copper orange with a nicely lacing thin white head. Fresh, dry, grassy, piney and well-hopped aroma has some toasty, dry, breadiness. Body starts full, caramel and toffee earthy sweet with some English tasting hops. Finishes dry, sticky and crisp with lots of semi-floral bitterness. Reminiscent of Stone 7th Anniversary, but could use a bit more sweetness.

Tap @ Toronado. An amber color with a light tan head. The aroma was of apple, pine, and hops with a nice floral character. There was a bitter cleansing finish on the palate with a nice malty base. A fine beer to sandwich between the double IPAs for the evening.

Draft at Liars Club. Hazy, rich amber-copper color with a small creamy white head and a little lace. Aroma is dominated by the floral and citrus hops with a little caramel maltiness as well. Flavor again dominated by hops, bit of a caramel malt backbone, but the flavor is all about the grapefruit and pine hops. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Nice, but pretty one-dimensional.

Pours with an amber body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. A little weak, but slightly sweet and a touch fruity with a very slight hoppiness and some grainy malt notes. Meidum bodied and smooth.
