COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aroma Coma is our summer seasonal India Pale Ale. We’ve brewed it annually since 2009 for a local IPA festival, where it was selected one of the top three beers in the competition. The malt bill consists of almost all 2-row barley malt, with a touch of Caramalt for body - leaving you with a delightfully hop-forward experience. Generous amounts of Cascade, Chinook, CTZ & Citra hops create the citrus, pine, and floral notes. Breathe ’Em in and enjoy!

Draft at whole foods. Pours hazy gold with offwhite head, good lacing. Overwhelmingly sweet aroma: cotton candy, citrus, flowers and honey. Taste: moderately sweet with bitter finish. Lasting copper finish. Palate: medium+ body, slick texture, average carbonation. Overall: sweet candied citrus ipa. I suppose the name is appropriate, but doesn’t induce the type of coma they were intending.

Thick white foam sits on a golden color body. Citrus and piney hop aroma leads into a moderate bitterness. Hop flavor is excellent and light malt fills in the palate. Quite good.

Bottle. Pours clear light amber with a foamy white head. Aroma of peach, resin, and pine. Nice aroma, but not coma-inducing. Bitter-all-way-through taste with pine and citrus. Dry bitter finish. Feels like some sweetness is missing to balance it out. Medium slightly thin body.

draft @ the source. Smells like citrus peel, grapefruit, mango then floral hops. Flavor is lightly juicy with the citrus. Notes of honey and grain through the center. The finish displays the floral hops just like the aroma. Dry texture with a medium body. Carbonation give a light tingle. Overall pretty nice.

Nose is somewhat weak but has nice bits of tropical fruitiness and a hint of citrus. Flavors are more pronounced, particularly a solid note of maybe papaya or dried mango. Tasty stuff though not earthshattering.

Pours pink gold, slightly hazy, 2 finger white head. Aroma is very fresh and vibrant... mango, pineapple, pine. Taste is similar to aroma, the bitterness is always there but very smooth. Finishes dry and sharp carbonation. Mouthfeel is just right.

Poured from a 22oz bottle dated 07/25/2014; bottle dates are such a great thing on IPAs. Aroma is a hop bomb with lots of citrus notes, especially grapefruit, orange and tangerine but also hints of lime. Moderate pine resin notes with medium light notes of stone fruit and tropical fruit. Light cracker malt note with a hint of caramel. Pours a slightly hazy, golden color with a big, thick, fluffy white head that shows great retention. Moderately high lacing with small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a nice grainy, cracker note but also some light rye spice and hints of caramel. Moderate hop notes similar to the aroma but with more stone fruit and a bit less pine resin. Medium strong bitterness. A hint of alcohol in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation and a slight stickiness, though the hops help dry out the finish. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a very nice, fresh IPA from Drake’s. I personally wouldn’t mind if it were drier with a bit thinner body, but I may be in the minority there. Lots of nice hop flavors though I suppose I would prefer a bit less pine in the aroma.

Ataraxia (369) - Massachusetts, USA - AUG 13, 2014
Clear golden color with a moderate, frothy white head. Subdued aroma of citrus, pine, caramel malt, and subtle floral notes. A bit too malty for an IPA, very light sweetness, followed by resin bitterness. The right amount of carb, heavier in body than expected, and ends with a long bitter finish.
