Aroma Coma is our summer seasonal India Pale Ale. Weíve brewed it annually since 2009 for a local IPA festival, where it was selected one of the top three beers in the competition. The malt bill consists of almost all 2-row barley malt, with a touch of Caramalt for body - leaving you with a delightfully hop-forward experience. Generous amounts of Cascade, Chinook, CTZ & Citra hops create the citrus, pine, and floral notes. Breathe íEm in and enjoy!

6.75% abv. $7.49 for the 650 mL bottle purchased from Bevmo (Temecula) earlier today. To pint, it pours a clear golden amber, and sustaining a bubbly off-white head resting atop. Aromas of pine needles, grapefruit, sourdough, lacquer, bong water, Bible paper, spelt, cotton, and green grapes. Tastes the same with the addition of chalk, chrysanthemum, and palm tree bark. Smooth and poundable. Nice IPA.

Bottle:   Vibrant golden, orange hued, with a fairly nice head and lacing.   Somewhat of a sweet fruity aroma, citrusy, candied, smells good.   Hoppy without being overly bitter, rather smooth actually.   Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate.   Clean hoppy exit.   Has a decent amount of sweetness to the soft bitterness.   Good balance, clean, and smooth for an IPA.   Yum!

Bomber purchased at BevMo in Escondido ($7.99). Pours a hazy sunset-orange hue with two fingers of fluffy white foam which leave some nice lacing. AROMA of fresh-cut citrus (tangerine and grapefruit), wet pine forest, hints of stone fruit (peach, apricot), herbal-resiny hops, and some toasted malts. FLAVOR of bright citrus, pine resin, earthy herbal hops, with some honey malts. Finishes mildly bitter. I didnít drink this as fresh as I should have, but the hops are very well done here. Another fine lupulin effort from the folks at Drakes. (144, 843)

Bottle: thanks, Mike! Cloudy, muddled golden color which has some orange-ish hues near the center; almost full opaque & topped with a nice sized, chunky eggshell creme that leaves nice lacing as it recedes. Aroma is full of juicy hops; light, gummy orange flesh, tropical fruit peels, dank & resinous hops... Very West Coast in execution - stanky pines & sticky tropics with only a mild, cracker-y malt bill. Taste start with bitter pines, pungent lupulin oil, mild grass, & a faint hint of green onion. Mide-palate into the finish has much fruit; tangerine peel, pineapple, & pith-y citrus notes... Quite bitter on the back of the tongue with a very small hint of malt sweetness for balance; light biscuit-y & bread-like finishing character. A pretty damn nice & very aromatic IPA.

Bottled: recently Iím assured. Apricot with a good peanut quilt, low clarity. Smells of citra, orange, lime, pine, weed, resin - all the awesome things from hops together. The nose does not fit any single IPA, itís blowing my mind - Iím expecting booze, but the ABV indicates otherwise. So I give it a taste, Iím surprised at the bitterness up front - then the citrus notes come back through and bitch slap my tongue. Biscuity malts follow through. Medium bodied with hi carb and an oddly dry finish. Nice beer, really nice beer. Serving type: bottle 08-19-2012

Bottle. Musty grapefruit, sweet vanilla aroma. Hazy honey gold with a moderate white head. Light cardboard, caramel, and herbal/earthy piney hops flavor. Medium body, moderate carbonation.

Full disclosure, I bought at Whole Foods and its 8 months old. Very weak nose, heavy on the malt and light on the hops. Iím sure it doesnít help that its old. Next time Iím checking the dates.

22oz bottle - I always have a place in my ífrig for Drakeís. Any time, any day. So when I come across a new IPA from theirs called Aroma Coma, itís a no-brainer. Get some. So get some I did and chose a day when I made a new mead to dive in. The aroma on this is really the star. Just a stunning aroma of fresh hops, like opening a hop bag and inhaling deeply. Floral, citrus, perfume...just really intense and a great showcase of hops. The palate is also quite tasty, and well balanced. Fruity/citrusy hops have a smooth relationship with the malts and it really works and creates a really tasty IPA.

A - Pours a golden hue with a 1.5 finger, off white head that fades quickly. S - Huge hop notes, citrus, pine, wheat. T - Lots of citrusey hots up front, grapefruit, citrus, moves into a wheaty middle with a semi-bitter back end. M- Medium bodied with ample carbonation. D - This is a great ipa that I could drink all day. Smells heavenly.
