3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
6oz nip courtesy of Irishboy. What an odd little beer. Oxidized slightly, but I donít know if it takes away from the beer all that much. A still, dark, plum-brown pour. Wet, slightly charred wood, rum soaked raisins and figs, vanilla, toasted caramel, wet leather and alcohol on the nose. Sweet and hot on the tongue, but unique nonetheless. Rum and brandy soaked vanilla beans, caramel, slight citrus zest, cola and alcohol as well. Creamy and full bodied with scant carbonation. Rasiny, sweet, boozy, oxidized but delicious!

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from a 6 oz. nip bottle. Still, tranquil spirit appearance of chestnut brown color. Dirty bourbon barrel in its muddy and moldy wood tones project strongly, carrying weaker tones of toffee cake, raisin, orange infused chocolate and ground cinnamon in a firm and commanding aroma. The pungency of the bourbon presence reveals a bit of the brown sugar and lemon tones common to its own type. Flavor spits out a rough vinegar blast, soaking its acetic, salty oxidized syrup into a dense cinnamon french toast body. Maple syrup, dirty bourbon, dried prune and wood; the subtler tones of the spirit are grievously sterilized by reckless heat, overpowering and brutish. Uncarbonated, full-bodied, and coarse in the mouth; there are 95 proof bourbons that integrate booze with greater skill and tactfulness. Slick, offensive sweetness and salt, with fairly full oxidation ringing out in lengthy finish. Not fully intolerable, just quite difficult; still, itís interesting. Simply too aggressive and altogether crushing in its presentation. Thanks for sharing, Kevin!

There was a very slight hop presence.Lots of caramel and fruit sweetness with a small amount of heat. Finish was warming and sweet.Thanx Christian for this.

Stud tasting 1.0 held at general_gaos. Thanks for putting up with us colin! Cola red pour with a small off white head. Aroma is bourbon and wood. Flavor is similar, some tootsie roll, bourbon, green wood, vanilla. Lots of barrel going on in this one. Pretty much flat finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, thanks to eyedrinkale for sharing. Brown, chocolate-like, color... clearish with no head. Aroma is very vanilla, alcohol / bourbon, some sweet malts, and light soy sauce notes. The flavor is the same, very rich, salty woodiness (again a little soy saucy). Like a much better version of the SA Triple Bock.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
nipper - Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, oak and alcohol. Flavor is strong chocolate, caramel, oak and vanilla. Palate is sticky yet smooth and strong with alcohol. Still pretty tasty even though is is getting on in age.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 6oz Bottle. Purchased at Hollingshead Deli 4/2007. Still pour, leaving absolutely no head sitting atop a mostly transparent, ruddy cedar bark body. A big port-wine aroma wafts heavily from the glass, saturated with notes of fruity raisin, plum, and brown sugar. A bit boozy, and also develops a bit of a medicinal cherry like character with over contemplation. For the most part, the nose is actually quite nice, showing a tremendous amount of dark fruit character, balanced by some chewy chocolate nougat and drying oak woodiness. Full bodied, completely still mouthfeel with some papery oxidation. Big time fruity sweetness and crushing flavor profile. Over-the-top, but not really unpleasant, although the alcohol is too harsh and biting on the back end. Lots of cherries, raisins, plums, oak, caramel, and a subtle soy sauce character that reminds me a lot of SA Trippelbock, although this is substantially lighter on the palate. The bourbon comes through swinging in the finish, getting a bit brash and abusive. Intensely flavorful, with that great rich fruity character that I loved in the brandy barrel version. This one is just a bit too coarse, and could really use a hint of carbonation to lighten up the palate a bit.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottled. Beer is muddy, very dark brown without any head.
Malty with moderate/heavy notes of mineral-laden black strap molasses, light chocolate; Light herbal hop; Moderate yeast notes of basement/wet cement; Heavy miscellaneous notes of dusty wet cardboard, bad sherry, light note of wood.
Heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter with a long, lightly bittersweet, warm finish. Salty molasses aftertaste. Ugh.
The body is full, the texture is watery and the carbonation is soft.

The net: Smells like a bum sleeping in a dirty cardboard box in the rain.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to my man on the coast--Stoutlover72! Bourbon aroma is very nice--a mix of some sweet and tangy scents, vanilla, and some sugar. Super muddy brown color with little head. Medium palate shows off a warm taste with heavy malt, syrupy bourbon tastes, sweet sugars and hints of toffee. Very complex flavor and aroma.
