4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 Thanks to SoLan for trading this to me. The beer pours to a murky dark brow body with no head. The aroma is quite nice. Sweet barley meets a bunch of vanilla bourbon and oak. Toffee and nougat. Simply phenomenal aroma. Damn! Touches of tobacco. The flavor is a nougat and barley thatís infused with lots of vanilla laden bourbon and molasses. Notes of tobacco. The palate is sweet and lightly sticky. Full bodied and alcoholic. A touch hot. But, very nice.
Other info: Thanks Jason for sharing this on 12/28/2009. Pours to a deep brown body thatís murky on the dregs pour with no head. The aroma is huge sweet bourbon with a ton of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet caramel, toffee, light soy sauce, sweet bourbon and sherry. The beer is still tasty but going downhill. Iíd drink it soon. Heavy caramel goodness. Sweet medium body thatís coating. 8, 3, 8, 4, 16 = 3.9

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared by EDA. Very deep aroma, one of those beers that you keep on smelling. Vanilla bourbon, mint, rubbing alcohol. Very corky, old flavor, reminiscent of a well aged british barleywine, some oak and soy. Great sweetness to this. Very enjoyable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
6oz bottle, courtesy of both tever and stoutlover72. Thanks, guys! Pours a hazy, yellowish-brown color; headless. Warm, sour-mash aroma: plenty of whiskey without much else, slightly hot. Full, toasty mouthfeel: light carbonation; warm whiskey and vanilla in the mouthfeel; very mild barleywine character; plenty of concentration from the barrel, but lacking much complexity from the beer underneath. Disappointing. Long, sweet and sour-mash finish.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Shared by eclectic. Hazy light brown body with no head. The nose is very sweet and vinous with bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel and toffee. The flavor is very sweet with toffee, light oxidation, toffee, golden raisins and alcohol. Full body is soft with light carbonation. Finish is astringent and warm.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
6 ounce bottle purchased from Monument Wine and Liquors. Pleasant bourbon aroma with some fruity, vinous notes present. I also smell saltine crackers in the aroma. Relatively aggressive aroma that is rather pleasant. Mostly hazy cola colored body with a very small off-white head that is quickly dissipating. Large amounts of bourbon flavor hit you to start. This is followed by a tart, strawberry-like flavoring. Turns rich, chocolatey, and mildly oxidized with some sweet cardboard/caramel flavors. This fits my preferences nicely. Probably the best beer I had all weekend.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
One of the three bottled beers worth buying at the Hollingshead Deli on May 18th. 6oz Bottle. A blush of rosy currants, cranberry flesh, and warming malt alcohols. Nips of Calvados and tangerine juice. Rich and full. Pours a rusted blood red, with peach fringes. No head, no carbonation. Flavor starts with an intense caramel and sugar rush, with nectarines and toast. Rather hot, almost flagrantly so at 10%. Bits of refined apple character peek through, but get washed away in a see of mildly oxidized cotton candy. Wood tooth of the barrel creams away much vanilla, detail but itís there in a Oaxacan sense. Good for a Mole. Extremely vinous and lightly bittered in a grape skin manner. Carbonation would help. But I think time might cut some of the harsher edges. Thereís even light percolations of coffee, oak and chocolate towards the back. I think it has the malt character and defintion to age up to 15 years and stay interesting. However, it does already taste a bit like itís at least 8 years old. A light spray of indiscriminate hop dust perks up a long, lightly soyed smack. What I expected. Not sure if itís worth the dollar.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
6 oz nip bottle courtesy of alohaC. Pour is cloudy brown ruby. No head whatsoever, in fact no noise at all when the cap was opened. Aroma of wood barrel and a whole bunch of the bourbon. Initially thatís pretty much it. As it opened, got some nice plum and raisins. Taste is sweet, boozy, bourbon, wood and some wet cardboard. Taste is really hot, overpowering really. This is pretty rough stuff for me, tasted somewhere in between a port and a bourbon. Aftertaste burns. The palate was nice and full, chewy really. I guess beers that push this far into the booze spectrum just arenít for me.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thanks to tever for this one.
It ours pretty flat and with a murky brown color. The vanilla characteristics of the bourbon really stands out and this is smooth.
