Drake’s Black Robusto Porter is a deep, dark “Robust Porter,” a beer style known for being darker, fuller-bodied, and higher in alcohol by volume than a standard Brown Porter. Our Black Robusto goes down smoothly with flavors of bittersweet chocolate an slight roast from Crystal and Chocolate malt. A touch of spicy, herbal hop character from Willamette hops balance out the finish. Enjoy a pint with dark, lingering satisfaction.

Bomber purchased at Distillers Outlet in Poway a little over two years ago ($4.99). Pours basic black with brown highlights, but the vigorous pour produces only a half finger of brown-beige foam. AROMA of quite dark chocolate, roasted malts, creamy vanilla, roasted nuts, and some dark coffee. FLAVOR has much the same as the nose with notes of chocolate-covered roasted nuts, burnt toast, espresso, ashy roasted malts, and vanilla. Finishes with lots of roasty and coffee bitterness and not much in the way of sweetness. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, but otherwise full of flavor and character. Not sure how much the two years of aging changed this, but today it is a really nice American porter. (92, 950)

Complex nose, roasty-treacley with a touch of sourness (in a pleasant way). Somewhat sweet with a roasty bite, but no harshness. Great full body, lasting moderately bitter finish. A wonderful beer. Great combination of malt and bitterness. A lot of flavor and body packed into a 6.3% beer.

~Rich chocolaty espresso aroma, dark and milk chocolate, bready and biscuity. Like a fresh baked bread smothered in chocolate and dipped in coffee. ~Pours black with frothy lasting brown head. ~Cold pressed coffee flavor, smooth yet slightly bitter acridness, dark chocolate and bread. ~Medium full bodied, with low CO2, smooth and soft on palette. Lingering bitter coffee finish. ~Damn good beer. Enjoyable and interesting. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Bottle: Costco - San Leandro: Black with a nice frothy tan head that sticks around for about 15 minutes. Malty bitter sweet choco aroma for sure just as advertised. GREAT flavor with a fruity tang at the end of the flavor. Smooth feel and super easy to drink. Another phenomenal brew from Drakes.

Aroma is dark cocoa powder, roasted malts. Taste is dark cocoa, some smoke, ashy, dry woody earth. Not too rich or roasty. Reminded me of a sessionable Dry Stout.

Poured from a bottle, San Diego. Black body, moderate airy head. Well-rounded porter. A complex beer that isn’t overpowering. Would make a solid session beer.

Bottle in San Jose. Pours black with a medium brown head and great lacing. Aroma is dominated by coffee and coco, with some burned notes from the roasted malts. Flavor is about the same, lightly sweet, light coffee bitter, with burned notes. Medium body.
