Drake’s Black Robusto Porter is a deep, dark “Robust Porter,” a beer style known for being darker, fuller-bodied, and higher in alcohol by volume than a standard Brown Porter. Our Black Robusto goes down smoothly with flavors of bittersweet chocolate an slight roast from Crystal and Chocolate malt. A touch of spicy, herbal hop character from Willamette hops balance out the finish. Enjoy a pint with dark, lingering satisfaction.

22 oz. bottle. Aroma is mainly dark chocolate with a hint of hops and some toasty malt. Appearance is jet black with minimal head but excellent lacing and clear with dark ruby highlights. The defining flavor of this beer is bittersweet chocolate, and some slight dark fruit and toasty flavors mingle in the background. It strikes an excellent balance for the black patent malt fans out there. The palate is satisfyingly rich but the roasted malt, carbonation, and hops clean it right out so that it never seems over-the-top. The finish is long and satisfying and might be longer if I wasn’t compelled to take another sip so soon. Overall this may be my favorite commercial porter and fits in perfectly with other classic examples such as Heretic’s Shallow Grave, Deschutes Black Butte, and Anchor Porter.

~Rich chocolaty espresso aroma, dark and milk chocolate, bready and biscuity. Like a fresh baked bread smothered in chocolate and dipped in coffee. ~Pours black with frothy lasting brown head. ~Cold pressed coffee flavor, smooth yet slightly bitter acridness, dark chocolate and bread. ~Medium full bodied, with low CO2, smooth and soft on palette. Lingering bitter coffee finish. ~Damn good beer. Enjoyable and interesting. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Bottle: Costco - San Leandro: Black with a nice frothy tan head that sticks around for about 15 minutes. Malty bitter sweet choco aroma for sure just as advertised. GREAT flavor with a fruity tang at the end of the flavor. Smooth feel and super easy to drink. Another phenomenal brew from Drakes.

Aroma is dark cocoa powder, roasted malts. Taste is dark cocoa, some smoke, ashy, dry woody earth. Not too rich or roasty. Reminded me of a sessionable Dry Stout.

Poured from a bottle, San Diego. Black body, moderate airy head. Well-rounded porter. A complex beer that isn’t overpowering. Would make a solid session beer.

Bottle in San Jose. Pours black with a medium brown head and great lacing. Aroma is dominated by coffee and coco, with some burned notes from the roasted malts. Flavor is about the same, lightly sweet, light coffee bitter, with burned notes. Medium body.

Dark brown black pour with brown foamy head from a 22oz bottle at home. Roasty, nutty, malty and burnt leaves aroma. Taste is basically the same with chocolate and cocoa added and a touch of coffee. Very smooth and good.
