Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drakeís most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drakeís most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

Dark orange pour with a tall beige head that gives way to a lacing that sticks to the side of the glass. Dank and piney smell, with notes of grapefruit, tropical fruit and salt. Bitter-sweet taste, with notes of grapefruit, gooseberris, unripe apples and herbal hops. The alcohol is present and noticeable, otherwise this would have been a much better beer.

Bottle at Gordon Biersch - Oakland airport. Surprising find, pricy, but worth it. Medium golden body, small creamy head, curtains of lacing on the glass. Dank, funky, hoppy, but still can detect the solid malt backbone. Lingering bite, mildly dry, but whereís the heat? Iím sure it will catch me later. Deserving of its high marks.

Draught at Eatrellitaís in Palo Alto. Pours clear orange with white head that dissipates bit leaves slight patterns on the glass. Aroma is assertive pine and moderate citrus. Flavors leans to heavy orange and overt piney resins. Moderate caramel malt and residual sweetness balance nicely. There is a high bitterness on the back that I did not like.

Keg at Jupiter. Pours clear, rich gold with a creamy off-white head. Rich citrus hops in the nose, pine. Medium sweet flavor with bready malts, pine, light bitter grass, papaya, melon, orange. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warming and resinous finish, lots of juicy citrus. A nicely rounded DIPA.

Draught at Jupiter. Clear amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus, tangerine, mango, light biscuit and light grain. Taste is light sweet and medium to high bitter with notes of citrus, caramel, light booze, pineapple and grain. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice but too malty for my taste.

Tap at Sprengerís, Santa Rosa. Pours deep honey, big white head. Aroma is citrus, big pine notes, resin. Flavor is hop forward with sugary high-abv sweetness and a piney finish. Itís solid. Maybe not the most going on, but I dig it.

1pint 6fl oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber honey colour with a orange tinged creme coloured head. Aroma is super fruit heavy, lots of fresh pineapple, grapefruit, passionfruit, with light golden syrup undertones. As for taste. Whoa. Up front, itís HUGE fruit. More than I have ever tasted in an IPA. Peach, apricot, passionfruit, light resinous notes with some light golden syrup that leads into light hop/malt notes and a surprise mellow lead out to the citrus in the finish. Not at all harsh at 90IBUís, and well balanced from front to back. It saddens me that I can grab this at a corner store in America, when I have tasted NOTHING like this that has come from a Canadian brewery. Pure gold.

Tap at the brewery tap drakes dealership. Clear bright orange coloured pour with a lasting sticky thin white head. Aroma is big toffee, slight butter popcorn, but not duacetyl, pine, orange rind. Flavour is composed of sweet malts, chewy toffee, spicy orange rind, pine, honey. Palate is full and chewy, moderate to high carbonation.
