COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drake’s most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake’s most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

Bottle. Bright copper with a puffy off white head that collapses a bit but laces well and never disappears. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, bread, spices, some obvious alcohol. Sweet and syrupy with more bread than caramel. Dries out a little towards the end, thankfully, grapefruit, kumquat, pineapple and pine shine rather than lumber through. Fairly high bitterness, slightly astringent. A little hot at the end, too. Pretty good.

Look: Pours with large, off-white (orange hue) head with small, equal bubbles. Has good slow retention, mostly diminishing - thick layer stays on top for the whole ride. Leaves a fair amount of lacing. Color is deep, dark amber, light haze. Looks nice.

Smell: Tropical, canned pineapple, then the herbal, earthy, floral comes to nose. Also some pine, grapefruit, wood. Moderate sweet caramel with light alcohol to detect. Also slightly spicy.

Taste: Starts fresh, pine, grapefruit, tropical, then moderate almost heavy middle molasses-honey malt backbone - a bit too heavy, overrides the fresh start. Continues with light alcohol spike and a weird tropicalish, floral, earthy sweet spike (dry pineapple candy) and ends with medium to high bitterness. It softly stays with you for a while, which is nice.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium carbonation - suiting. Also very light alcohol warming.

Overall: Smells good, the taste gets a bit weird and too heavy on the malt sweetness. Overrides the freshness. Still, a solid take on DIPA, worth a try.

22 ounce bottle. Thanks Pete! Pours a hazy golden orange with a nice off-white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste is grapefruit, pine, tropical fruit, floral, and a bit of malt. Nice.

Bottle from bevmo. Whoa serious tongue buckling hop profile here. Bordering on too much band aid hops though for me. Dark orange color with good lacing and white head. Pine and slight rubbing alcohol aroma. The rubbing alcohol comes through to the flavor pretty substantially as well. Finish is herbal and a little peppery. Not a subtle drink at all. Unfortunately also not my favorite hop profile.

Pours orange/amber with little off white head. Smells of light hops, pine, and resin. Tastes of hops, mellow bitter, and pine. Has a creamy mouth-feel and light carbonation.

from Erzbierschof - pours a cloudy copper-orange beer under a solid creamy beige foam; correct lacework; huge hoppy aroma, mainly flowery with notes of candied caramel and cotton candy; full-bodied, fairly sweet; some fair bitterness but I would never guess 90 IBU because of the residual sweetness; more notes of cotton candy and some undefined fruits; sticky - not convincing

650ml bottle, pours murky golden brown with a small white head, big aroma with a piney and caramel nose, lots of tropical fruits, a thick, oily palate with juicy tropical fruit hops leading into a bitter, short finish. Pineapple, grapefruit, guava. Nice malt backbone, oily and juicy. Carbnation medium. My type of beer, excellent.

Pours a thick orange with a creamsicle top. Mostly overripe pineapple on the nose. Tons of caramel, fruit, honey upfront followed by the hoppy bitter bits. Perhaps a tad on the syrupy side.

A bomber from Costco poured into a tulip. Pours dark gold, cloudy, nice off-white head. Smells like a IPA, orange, honey, little bit of pine. Has a medium, medium-heavy sweet and bitter taste. Has a medium body, a little creamy like all Drake’s brews. Tastes initially more bitter than it smells, then finishes with a big malty backbone. This year’s brews is heavy on the yeast (from what I remember about past years). Good, slight alcohol taste on the finish but still good for a local DIPA. I like them a little more hoppy and fresh tasting but still good for a 9.75%.
