Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drake’s most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake’s most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

Here’s yet another very solid IPA/IIPA from the left side. Amber color with a thick off-white head that dies down to a very thin layer. The aroma has that lemony citrus smell with a twist of pine and just a little caramel for the malt. The flavor offers a little more sweet malt than the aroma had me thinking but the hops are sharp and bitter, covering much of that up. A resiny-pine hop punch dominates the flavor. Surprisingly, there’s not much of a tropical fruit component, if any, here. I do prefer these more tropical than pine/resiny but no big deal. This is fairly smooth going down but the alcohol is not hidden. I guess you can say it tastes imperial with big hops, sweet toffee, and some alcohol, but it doesn’t get too sticky on the palate. Again, the bitterness is sharp and this gets quite dry in the finish. This isn’t in my top tier of IIPAs but it might be in the next group.

Dark copper-amber color with a medium head. Fresh hops aromas abount with notes of orange and pine bark and pine wood with some interesting honey sweetness. Pleasant, moderate bitterness with full hop and malt flavors are supported by a substantial body and a well-balanced alcohol character.

660 ml bottle.
Pours a hazy copper colour with a small, thick, white head. Aroma of fresh floral hops, caramel malts, toffee and some hay. Flavour of caramel malts, fresh hops, toffee, hay and some floral notes. Medium bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, hoppy, bitter, fruity finish. Well balanced.

660ml bottle from Bierkompass

Pours dark orange with a sticky foamy head. Aroma has notes of exotic fruits, caramel malts, toffee and butter. Taste starts out quite sweet but exotic hops and massive bitterness kicks in fast. Bitter, quite warming finish. Sweet, but well balanced and hoppy IIPA.

Nose is full of caramel and toffee, pine, dank, floral notes, with touches of citrus and soft lighter fruit -apricot. Blue Oyster Cult "Dont Fear the Reaper" is a great song on Rock Band. Pours hazy amber orange, nice head, lace, etc and all that shit. Flavors of caramel, toffee, apricot, pine, dank, some citrus hops. Leaning towards malty but without all that iced tea and bullshit. Drinks rather nicely for 10% motherfuckers.

Pours amber with a beige head. Aroma is thick hops, caramel malts, alot of ripe fruits, peach, resin, pine and bready yeast. Taste is ripe grapefruit, citrus, peach, big hops, dominating caramel malty backbone leading to a bitter end.

Molt bona cervesa. Tot i que es veu que és de les millors de la casa jo preferixo la seva hopocalypse. Serà pel dry hopping, serà pel llúpol magnum. No sé...

Bottle 66 cl. Amber pour with a frothy white head. Aroma has piney hops, lime notes, orange, lots of malts as in caramel, toffy and bread crust, the hops offer a somewhat liquorice feel, like salmiac liquorice, notes of lemon peel and pink grape fruit. The taste is very bitter, pine, resinous, toffy, lots of bread crust and caramel, the hops come off very bitter, but without all the pungent tropical fruitiness that you’d want from a DIPA this malty. Too malty.

Bottled. Thanks to Robert "Baggen" Högberg. Dark amber colour with dark off-white head. Laid back hops in aroma, with notes of black tea, almond paste, strawberries, nuts and salty bitterness already here. Rounded mouthfeel with notes of toffee, bitter hops, black tea, caramel. Not an ultra-fresh bottle but acceptable for the style. The salty hops are not aggressive and are clearly there in the background. Nice balance of caramel and hops. Really a well made 2IPA.
