COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drake’s most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake’s most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

A-pours a dark orange almost burnt transparent beer that has a slightly bubbly off white head with a fair bit of lace left behind. S-hints of pine and peppermint up front, juicy citrus orange and resignous caramel with a touch of spicy hop. T-pine, chewy malts, resignous caramel and some toasted malt, light note of grain, orange citrus, very spicy hop finish with a touch of peppermint. M-fuller body and rather chewy with a seltzery feel to it towards the back and thins out just a bit with an assertive prickly carbonation. D-the flavors border more on the malt side with lots of spice to it in the back. its a little rough around the edges but not bad.

Great beer. The aroma is full of rich malt and hop freshness. Its appearance is amber with a strong golden/ red hue. The taste is where this beer really shines, it is very similar to hoptimum but not as fresh, and a little less malty than double jack, but on par with the two of them. I enjoy the balance and the silky finish. It is very hoppy but the hops slide off your tongue quickly.

Cool brass/copper color, earthy feel, great flavor, and well balanced malt is real treat. Not too heavy and great head, reccomended to other DIPA lovers, close to a green flash imperial IPA style

Bottle at the double 5k tasting. Pours a clear orange amber. Hoppy, crisp citrus and caramel on the nose. Spicy, citrus and caramel. Boozy, malt, toast, and spicy citrus.

Picked up a bomber bottle at Best Damn Beer Shop in San Diego. Pours a fairly clear, ruddy brown color with an off-white head and light, scattered lacing. Nice aroma of sweet pine, with an undercurrent of spicy citrus that reminds me of orange peel. Flavors are big, bold, and delicious, with a nice balance between caramel malts, hoppy herbal flavors, and subtle, juicy fruit notes. A drawn-out finish with a hint of alcohol flavor backing a spicy coffee bitterness. Interesting mouthfeel: medium-bodied, but with fine, tingly carbonation that stops just short of stinging your tongue, and kind of wakes you up. Really good.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2011 Tap sample at Rubicon in Sacramento. Deep brass color with a white film for a head. I suspect the head would be thicker on a full pour. Earthy hop nose of grass, hay, and soil. Super slippery and full in the mouth. Surprisingly malt forward and not overly hoppy given the style. Its nice to see a DIPA that didn’t forget to double the malt, too. A real treat!

Bistro DIPA fest 2011. Pours a woody copper with a thinning head. Aroma is a bit sweet caramel, but otherwise ok with a grassy citrus and pine sap kick- grapefruit and tangerine are moderate. Flavor is more caramel and sweet toasted malts with medium sweet honey then grapefruit, orange and pine hops. Tacky resinous bitter finish slight astringent but otherwise pretty good- still not as good as hop salad, or hopocalypse though. Or 1500 for that matter.

22oz. Bottle (9.75%ABV per the Bottle): Got in trade from NorCalgrowler; THANKS Marco! Aroma of tons of hops, pine, grass, hop oil, and some citrus. Really nice, fresh hop scent. Poured amber in color with a small, creamy, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and heavily bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, citrus, grass, slight malt, hop oil, and some tropical fruit. Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Medium sweet, heavily bitter, hop, pine, grass, citrus finish. 9.75%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

medium dark amber body. tan head. juicy fruit, caramel and toasted malt nose. spicy hops and chewy sweet caramel / candy apple / cherry / orange flavored malt. chewy, resinous and thick. aggressive american double/strong red ale without the darker malt additions.

Bomber. Pours clear dark amber with a thin off-white head. The nose is mostly caramel malt with some ripe citrus mixed in. The taste is caramel, citrus and resin. Pretty good – might have a little age on it as it’s not as hoppy as expected but still decent.
