COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drake’s most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake’s most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

Here’s yet another very solid IPA/IIPA from the left side. Amber color with a thick off-white head that dies down to a very thin layer. The aroma has that lemony citrus smell with a twist of pine and just a little caramel for the malt. The flavor offers a little more sweet malt than the aroma had me thinking but the hops are sharp and bitter, covering much of that up. A resiny-pine hop punch dominates the flavor. Surprisingly, there’s not much of a tropical fruit component, if any, here. I do prefer these more tropical than pine/resiny but no big deal. This is fairly smooth going down but the alcohol is not hidden. I guess you can say it tastes imperial with big hops, sweet toffee, and some alcohol, but it doesn’t get too sticky on the palate. Again, the bitterness is sharp and this gets quite dry in the finish. This isn’t in my top tier of IIPAs but it might be in the next group.

Bottle thanks to IrishBoy! Clear dark orange pour, soapy head and a very resinous hop aroma. Flavor is astringent pine hops, hot boozy oranges, a decent malty backbone and some caramel and more hot hops on the finish. Good, but would probably be better if the alcohol was dialed down a few points.

Super hazy perfect copper coloured body with an orange glow and a thick, two centimetre tall fluffy tan head - very nice looking beer. Aroma of citrus, cascade hops, alcohol, pine, sugars and a very nice tropical fruit flavour. Full-bodied; Deep rich malty flavour at first with a ton of bright citrus and piney hops and a lot of alcohol that shows through immediately. Fruits dominate the finish with a lot of sugars, a decent amount of malt, a ton of hops and a few tons of alcohol - very strong in the finish. Overall, a nice Imperial IPA, perhaps a bit too strong in alcohol and too big of a bottle, but a nicely done beer, that if you like the style - you’ll like this one. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tustin, California on 06-December-2011 for US$6.29 sampled at home in Washington on 13-May-2012.

Bottle shared at my 30:th birthday tasting on May 5 (30 år av Surt). Courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours tiny hazy reddish golden with an offwhite head that is rather slow to dissipate but doesnät leave much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and bitter with caramel, pine, freshly cut grass, orange peal, lemon zest and hints of green herbs like dill and lemon balm. Taste is sweet and bitter with caramel, dill, orange peal, brown sugar, unripe mango, pine and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, oily bitter and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and oily bitter with caramel, orange peal and dill.

Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Lots of malt and lots of alcohol in the aroma, along with peach and pine hops. Sweet malty flavour with vanilla notes. Some peach hop character, some alcohol, and a quite bitter finish

22 oz bottle. Pours a nice golden orange with frothy white head. Nice citrus, grapefruit aroma. Taste is the same with a smooth delivery of bitterness towards the end. Alcohol is well hidden, this drinks very smoothly.
