COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drake’s winter offering is a deep orange monster that is loosely filtered to keep the integrity of the malt & hops intact. Available January - March.

Editor’s Note: Please observe the ABV and color of the label. This entry is for the 9.3% DIPA. Previous to 2016, the label had a white background. In 2016, the label is green.

Bottle from a trade with Michael (misterburd) -- cheers, buddy! This is a big beer, so much so that once it warmed it I started thinking that maybe I was drinking a hoppy barleywine, but even as a big DIPA it is delicious. Definitely an old school, West Coast style DIPA -- a lot more balanced, a lot more bitter than the hop bombs that I’m used to out here in New England -- but excellent.

Pours three fingers of head on a clear straw body. The aroma is a burst of pine with mango and pineapple, also a bit of bread in the background. The taste is strong deep bitterness that goes throughout. The texture is thicker. It’s a big DIPA.

[1/30/16] Draught at Sprengers Tap Room in Santa Rosa. Clear deep golden. Aroma of oniony, fruity and piney hops. Flavor has some sweetish malt, oniony fruity hops, and strong bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Keg at City Beer, SF, 28/01/16. Clear golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is caramel malt, citric pith, toasted bread, straw, grapefruit. Taste comprises caramel malt, pine needle, bitter orange, tropicana. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with semi aggressive hop bitterness. Solid enough DIPA.

Tap at City Beer. Deep gold, clear, with a low, lacy head. Nose is citrus fruit, a bit of candy, orange, biscuits, some honey. Sweet and fruity, rich flavor with nice orange and some apricot. A bit sweet and syrupy, but a good hoppy finish.

On tap the the barrel house. Clear golden orange coloured pour with a small white head. Aroma is sticky resinous pine, juicy melon and orange rind. Flavour is composed of clean and semi sweet base malts with a pinch of caramel, orange rind, sticky hop resin, little varnish. Palate is semi sweet and sticky, frothy carbonation lifts it off the tongue. Hides the abv very well. Good stuff.

On cask at the Barrel House. It pours a golden color with an off white head. The aroma has some melon and sweet hoppy candied grapefruit. The flavor is smooth with lots of citrusy grapefruit, melon, passionfruit and a very light hint of caramel before a solid floral bitter finish. Soft, low carbonation. Good stuff.

On tap at beer revolution. Another winner from Drakes! The nose on this is pretty awesome with fresh citrus, pine, and florals. Very orange in color with a creamy orange head. The flavor is piney with notes of caramel malt. Huge, resinous finish. Sticky, full mouthfeel. A little spicy as well.
