Bottle thanks to Jason for sharing. Pours a clear orange-gold with a medium sized head that fades to a ring and leaves a little lacing. Aroma is packed with dank and citrusy hops. Getting grapefruit, grapes, olive oil, and wet leaves. Tastes like oily hop leaves and grapefruit mostly. Some sweet malt and light tropical fruit as well. Solid DIPA but doesn’t seem to warrant the hype around it.

22oz bottle poured into shaker pint. Hazy golden amber with a stubborn two-finger rocky cream-colored head. Mango, pine, orange, grapefruit, and caramel aroma. Bitter up front with orange peel, pine resin, and grapefruit pith. Mid palate sweetness with malty caramel and bread crust. Bitter on the swallow with a touch of aspirin and pine. Medium body, viscous texture that grows creamy as it warms, long bitter finish.

22 oz. bottle. Pours an orangish amber with a medium white head. A fair amount of lacing. Aroma is dank, piney and resinous. There is lots of spruce, some grass and herbal quality. Mild malty sweetness. Full bodied, somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Finishes bitter with a mineral water quality.

Bottle while in Napa Valley for vacation. White label bomber dated 1-28-2014 and consumed on 3-5-14. Pours a beautiful clear copper with a big fluffy white head that stays around for a while. Bright citrus aroma with a big caramel malt aroma backing it. Lots of sweet heavy caramel grapefruits on the smell here. Flavor is very malt forward with big heavy caramel grapefruit, slightly syrupy, orange rinds. Goodness this is heavy. Not what I was expecting from a west coast DIPA. Pretty good if you like this version of the style, but really lacking the bright citrus and pine I expect from my pales these days. Heavy mouthfeel, slick, some resin, medium carbonation, and really cones off almost syrupy. Not an old bottle at 4 or so weeks, but maybe this goes downhill way quick? A bit disappointed in this one, but not terrible by any means. Can't imagine how malt heavy the black label is.

From a bottle dated 02/11/2014.Aroma is full of grapefruit, orange, tropical fruit and lesser pine resin hop character. Moderate caramel character with some lighter rye notes. Some fruit esters. A moderate, slightly off putting note in the aroma that I can?t quite nail down, but is like a mix of rotting fruit and vegetables. Light alcohol spice. Pours a slightly cloudy, orange color with a bit of copper. Medium sized, fairly thick, slightly off white head with above average retention and moderate lacing. Medium sized legs. Flavor has a moderate sweetness with some light caramel and some rye character. Moderately strong bitterness with some alcohol spice in the finish. Moderately strong hop flavors. Lots of tropical fruit and citrus notes with some pine resin. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer, but I remember previous years being better. The hop aroma has a very odd character, but the flavor is better. Too much malt notes as well. Ends up being pretty easy to drink.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Jason! Orangey-yellow body with a mild clarity to it, not much head, at least not for a DIPA... Mild, soapy white foam. I wasn’t digging the aroma on this one, which was surprising to me. Hop leaves, green onion, & grass.. But I was pulling this strange, cooked vegetable (leaning towards carrots) notes that were really putting me off. Taste was a bit better... Zesty & oily hops, leaves with a light grassiness & a touch of sweet biscuit malt sugars in the finish. Nice mouth feel, oily & crisp. The aroma really killed this for me, & while the taste wasn’t so bad, it didn’t knock my socks off either. No one else felt this way, so I wonder if something was wrong with my sniffer :o(
