Drake’s winter offering is a deep orange monster that is loosely filtered to keep the integrity of the malt & hops intact. Equal amounts of American two row and English pale are combined with two types of Munich malt, and balanced with Chinook, Cascade & Amarillo hops. Enjoy the massive aroma and flavor of this beer. Available January - March.

Editor’s Note: Please observe the ABV and color of the label. This entry is for the 9.3% DIPA. Previous to 2016, the label had a white background. In 2016, the label is green.

Drar halvblint mot en pliny. Ananas och mango. Balanserad beska som dock är ganska tung. Bra kropp. Håller plinyn som något bättre.

Amber brown. Super resinous bursting grapefruit and pine cones. Sadly, these tasters make aroma really difficult. Okay. Got a snifter. Huge tangerine, spice and fruitiness. Taste is palate wrecking. 100 IBUS of resinous bitterness. But despite that aspect, it’s incredibly balanced for such a bitter beer. So impressive

Bonus from a recent trade. Big toffee and butterscotch flavors. Nice citrus orange aromas. Smooth mid palate with a sticky resin finish. Bordering on a barleywine. Bit of orange candy slice in the long lasting finish as well.

Pour is transparent golden amber with a tight white head. Nose is bready malt, faint grain, lots of oily resinous hop aromas, pine and faint citrus. Taste is extremely oily, tons of hop resins, syrupy fully body, moderate bitterness and a steel like taste through the finish.

Sample at The Bistro DIPA-Festival, February 8. Hazy golden with a white head. On the sweet side with hops, grapefruit, peach and citrus. Hoppy, bitter finish. A descent one.

sadly, this is not nearly as good a batch as last years edition. missing the complexity, subtlety and depth that last years batch had. tastes as if one or two of the main hops are missing and the malt quotient has been increased. .. sigh. clearly, not the same recipe or the execution is lacking. one of my top 3 DIPAs from 2013 so big disappointment for me with the 2013 edition. still a solid double but not up to drake’s usual standards IMO.
