COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Russian Imperial Stouts were originally brewed in the early 20th century in England for export to the Imperial Court of Russia. These beers were made with a higher starting gravity and higher hopping rates to make the voyage by sea. Drake’s Imperial Stout is brewed to an original gravity of 21.5°P. by a mall bill of 91% Malted Barley, 4% Crystal Malt, 3% Roasted Barley and 2% Chocolate Malt. Chinook hops were added to balance the beer. A hearty yeast strain was used to create a beer that weighs in at a robust 8.75% Alc. by Vol. A Pint a Day Keeps Scurvy Away!

Aroma is loads of roasted malt, liquorice, chocolate, leather and more. Flavour is deep bitterness of roasted malt, liquorice, earth. Roast clings on and doesn’t let go. Really nice brew.

22 oz. bottle from Hayduke with whom it was enjoyed via facebook chat. This pours black with a big funky looking brown head. It has gone beyond tan. The nose is mostly chocolate with some dark fruit. That chocolate dominates the flavor and is simply delicious. There is also some coffee and vanilla. I kept looking for hops but if they are in there they are buried by all of that chocolate malt. This beer is delicious, just delicious. Hops or not this is good. I can only imagine how a whiskey barrel aged version would taste. This is good, that would be nirvana. Thanks so much, Ron!

Got a bomber bottle at Bevmo in San Diego, CA. Tasted from a tulip glass. Pours a very dark, murky brown, with a foamy tan head. This beer is such a chocolate bomb...nose is like smelling a really great bar of dark chocolate with hints of alcohol. Flavors follow suit, but add a bit of nutty bitterness and a slight root beer touch...that maybe seems to numb the tongue just a tiny bit? The body on this one seems fizzy and lighter than I expected, so it seems quite drinkable. Delicious overall.

Poured dark black, with no head due to no carbonationn, this bottle might have sat too long. Still had faint aromas of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavors matched the aromas, with a small amount of dark fruits on the palate. This beer would of gotten a better score if I drank in its prime, but lack of carbonation I think did it in.
