Bottled. Pours a black coal color with a moderate dark brown head. Strong roasted malty aroma right up front, with a bit of a coffee scent. Some chocolate as well. Bitter malty flavor right up front. Followed by some hoppiness, along with a little coffee. Finish is a combination of malty and hoppy bitterness. The 8.75% abv is fairly well hidden.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 warriorx99 (85) - USA - APR 17, 2006
Bottled. This beer pours black with more head than I’ve ever seen on a beer. The aroma is chocolaty. This heavy stout tastes of roasty malts and chocolate. A good well-balanced stout.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 HopheadHans (794) - Bay Area, California, USA - APR 14, 2006
Bottle. Pours dark , almost black with a light brown giant head that lasts a long time. The lacing is excellent. Heavy aromas of molasses and toasted malts with a bit of hops and fruit. Flavors of toasted malts, light sweetness and bitter finish. The only criticism is that the beer has too much carbonation and hence the palate is thinner than it should be.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ZaRue (11) - Laguna Laguna Niguel, California, USA - APR 12, 2006
Swing cap bottle. A dark stout with a well formed and aromatic head. Chocolate nose and mild smokey coffee note. Better served slightly warm for a fuller flaver. Not for the mild beer drinking population.

Bottle. Careful when opening, as it opens with a mighty POP. Big head doesnt last too long though. Nice coffee and chocolate blend really nice like a nice egg cream. Not too much of either with enough carbonation to sweep the palate clean.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2007 Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoke, dark fruits, roasted malts, and chocolate. Taste of chocolate malts, roast, smoke, a faint hoppiness, and light alcohol as well... medium carbonation.

Almost black and the head is tan as it gets.Huge and cream-textured it is also. Dark chocolate aroma dominates, some roasted and fruity aromas as well. Chocolate flavours, sweet to begin with, gradually drier, making roasted and fruity flavours more appearant. Full-bodied and soft. Great beer!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SDbruboy (1864) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 4, 2006
Draft at the brewery on Friday Open House night. Pours dark ebony with a small beigey tan head that leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma is thick and rich, dark roasty malts, chocolate and dark fruits dominate. Flavor also features plenty of the roasty, chocolate and dark fruits along with a nice herbal hop balance. Full body and creamy carbonation. Quite nice overall - another good beer from Drakes!
