A big, malty beast of a beer that exemplifies the way we roll here at Drake’s. Two-row malt is blended with Chocolate malt, roasted barley, and dark Crystal malts to make up the grist. Only one hop addition, Columbus, is added for bittering, allowing the abundance of malt in this beer to shine through. Enjoy the dense brownish head, the silky maltiness, and flavors of licorice, coffee and chocolate, rounded out with a slightly dry finish. here’s to those who don’t fear the mighty!

Bomber served in a pint. Pours pitch black with a large cocoa head. Excellent retention and lace. Silky maltiness, flavors reminiscent of licorice, followed by dark chocolate, and coffee. Full body, average carbonation, creamy texture, and a long roasted finish. The alcohol is nicely disguised.

Bottle: very dense black that pours with a thick head which dissipates quickly. No lace or head. Very dense aroma. Only moderate lift. Chocolate cocoa, roasted and hint of anise. Lacks complexity but shows nothing unpleasant. The palate is off dry, not sour and only moderately bitter. Very creamy. Great weight. Mocha, chocolate with a silky feel. Good beer but not exceptional or pushing the limits.

From notes. Tasted some time near the fall of 2012 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle. Pours black with a thin brown head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is darkly roasted malt with a touch of molasses, very dry with some dark cocoa. The flavor a touch of sweetish molasses and milk chocolate up front, moving to dark chocolate, coffee, a touch of vanilla, and nice, dry bitterness. The body is full with average carbonation and a long, bitter darkly roasted finish.
