Commercial Description:
Russian Imperial Stouts were originally brewed in the early 20th century in England for export to the Imperial Court of Russia. These beers were made with a higher starting gravity and higher hopping rates to make the voyage by sea. Drake’s Imperial Stout is brewed to an original gravity of 21.5°P. by a mall bill of 91% Malted Barley, 4% Crystal Malt, 3% Roasted Barley and 2% Chocolate Malt. Chinook hops were added to balance the beer. A hearty yeast strain was used to create a beer that weighs in at a robust 8.75% Alc. by Vol. A Pint a Day Keeps Scurvy Away!

A pitch black beer with a disappearing chocolate brown head. The aroma is roasted with notes of chocolate and coffee, and so is the flavor, leading up to a dry end. Mysteriously, the body is thin.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of aspidites/IrishBoy. Pours black and opaque with a light brown head. Aroma of dried fruit and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with loads of hard roasted malts, vanilla and....vitamins! Quite some bitterness from the malts. But very pleasant. 270607 and 070907

Bottled. Very black, brief jead. Saölty licorice aroma. Sweet and very roasty. Very rich with some molasses and coffee, salty bitter finish. The mouthfeel is a bit mellow.

Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 1. Pours deep brown with light brown head, bobbly. Dark chocolate and underlying liqourice aroma. Full bodied. Perfectly balanced chocolate and liqourice flavour. Soft yet warming finish. Very nice, somewhat two component brew (chocolate and liqourice).

Very dark brown colour. Fudgey, lightly chocolatey aroma. Stinging, hoppy flavours with a lot of roasty, bitter intensity. Fairly straightforward character, but intense.
