csbosox (937), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Mar 16, 2008 First of all, huge props to Tim for this beer, it has been one that piqued my interest for a while. Quite a gift! 12oz bottle. English pint glass. Smells nice! Grapefruit, citrus, floral, and to a lesser extent, earthy hops in the aroma as well as some nutty & caramel malt backing. Dark copper color with a long lasting two fingered head. Served a little on the chilly side at 46°. The English style IPA malt bill is nice, lots of caramel and darker malts, maybe a touch of biscuit but there are plenty of hops in the flavor too. The hops seem to be earthy, floral, and piney. The citrus character doesn’t seem to come through in the flavor, which is neither good nor bad. Lingering bitterness. This is somewhat balanced, but in the end it is a west coast IPA and the bitterness is pronounced.
Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours a golden body with a white head. Grapefruit, floral earthiness some citrus, a strong hop bite pine and bitter. GreatLibations (1240), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Jun 23, 2008 A deep amber cream liquid pours with a tall creamy head that rests to a rocky creamy clump. Superb lacing. Strong malty sweet aromas with a little hay and carrot cake. Full nectar with good carbonation. Almost bourbonesque in flavor with a sweet malty mucus that pushes a briny hop creep into view. IDK, this brew is not a classic example by any means. I was so looking forward to it. You people are crazy. Aquilo (138), California, USA Jun 11, 2008 This is about as middle of the road as you can get for an IPA. It’s not bad. But there’s nothing exciting here either. You would think that if they put a gold medal on the bottle, the beer would be exceptional. All I can figure is that there must not have been enough competition for that medal.
So anyway, it pours a rather dark and cloudy amber color with a little bit of head. It has that distinctive orange-and-hop IPA smell. But the hops are grassy and not assertive enough for me. A little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg in the aroma as well. The flavor is weak. There’s not much else to say for it. Some orange. Some grassy hops. A bit watery. Just weak. Palate is average. Not too fizzy. Not too smooth. Seriously, if you’re going to put a gold medal on your bottle, I expect more. chadje (93), Pasadena, California, USA Jun 11, 2008 A very good IPA. Nice scent of hops and tasted hoppy and a nice bitter taste. wetherel (884), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 9, 2008 Tried on tap at some place in Livermore with AgentSteve. I’ve seen this around town in San Diego on tap, but I’ve never tried it. Amber color. Thick nitro head. Mild bitterness. Flatish. Low flavor. I wonder if the nitro is killing it? Normally I love nitro beers.
