4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BMan1113VR (6519) - Los Angeles, USA - NOV 27, 2010
2010 (22oz) bottle. Pours with a hazed orange-brown body and a large, creamy bone hued head. Very good lace as well. Aroma is increadably bright and hoppy. Huge citrus, huge tropical fruit. Herbal hops, a nice candied sweetness, a bit of honey, caramel and damp leaves. Smells like a very fresh and hoppy DIPA (similar to a PtE actually). The indicated 68 IBU must be all hop bursting! Flavor is caramel and citrus, with tropical fruit, nectarine, orange peel, peaches and a distinct bitterness. Very floral with a very solid malt back bone. Flavors remind me a bit of Decadence 2006. Lively and somewhat creamy carbonation. Medium dry. An excellent imperial red!

Bomber purchased 13 months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($6.49). Pours a really lovely red-garnet hue with one finger of creamy beige foam. Aroma has lots of hop tones initially (tropical fruit, pine, citrus) followed by a notable caramel maltiness. Flavor also starts with some sharp hop notes (grapefruit rind, pine needles) but immediately an equivalent caramel malt force comes in to balance it all out with further notes toffee and molasses. Quite a well-balanced imperial red. The hops notes are still quite strong even though I aged this for over a year. (57, 665)

This beer pours a clear amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma of citrusy hops, sweet malt and toffee. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character that has herbal and citrusy notes. Bready malt in the background. The finish is fruity (tropical and citrus) with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable overall.
