3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma has mellow notes of caramel and cracker with a hint of a burnt, smokey caramel. Low fruitiness, similar to golden raisins and dried apricots. There is a bit of citrus and peach with some pine. Lacks the rich, complex malt undertones that I would really like to see here. Little to no alcohol in the aroma.
Appearance is what you would expect from a barlewine. Burnt copper with some amber red hues. Slight, light tab head with surprisingly good retention.
Flavor is sweet with a lot of biscuit and cracker. Some sweet caramel character with a hint of burnt toffee. Fruit is present but slight. Hop notes are a lot more present in the flavor. Lots of pine and a moderate amount of orange citrus, some faint peach. Moderate bitterness, not as assertive as I would have expected. A rich of a spicy alcohol note in the finish.
Mouthfeel is moderate and possibly a touch thin but creamy. Very low astringency and moderate carbonation. Only a touch of alcohol heat.
Overall it's not bad, but it's not great either. I guess I expect more from Drake's. No flaws, but nothing that jumps out and wows you either.

Bottle shared by oRos. Pours amber with a short off-white head and a red ale type aroma. There is a bitter smoked malt flavor that turns fruity. Complex and tasty.

Hazy amber/copper pour with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and brown sugar nose, some toffee, and plenty of fruit and citrus. Grapefruit, orange, and piney hops. Slight perfume, too. Nice balance of sweetness, alcohol, and bitterness. Pine, grapefruit peel, and heavy floral qualities. Sweet caramel and toffee maltiness, some peach, and brown sugar.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle. It pours a clear reddish amber color with a creamy, eggshell colored head that slowly shrinks to a small ring. The aroma is strong with spicy and tropical fruit hops with some red fruit maltiness. I’m not getting the dank that other people have been commenting on. The flavor has very spicy hop (Chinook) and strong alcohol. Some dense maltiness, but not real sweet at all. The hops certainly take center stage, as this could probably pass for a IIPA in some circles. The body is very thick with some doughy qualities before the bitter, spicy finish. Not bad, but I prefer the English take on this style.

Clear copper pour with a creamy off-white head. Nose is toasted malts and earthy hops. More resiny hops and a hint of earthy sweetness. Bitter sweet and sticky finish. It falls flatter than previous years.
