3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: Pours a semi-clear dark amber with a big fluffy head that subsides to a retaining thin cap of tan.
Aroma: Quite similar to the Imperial Red from 2010! Resinous piney hops, brown sugar and burnt sugar like malt sweetness. Very aromatic even from a far.
Taste: Big bitter and citrusy hops, burnt toasty and caramel malts. A little dark chocolate, finishes with long sturdy dry bitterness that lingers well past the sip. Not boozy, but the over-the-top hop profile would lead you to believe this beer is young/hot.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, lively carbonation.
Overall: Delicious, big and hoppy. A very similar beer to not only Jolly Rodger 2010, but also to fresh Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. I would drink this guy fresh however.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
I always love a good barlywine, and this one does not disappoint. Dark and cloudy amber color. Citrus and caramel aroma. Very bitter flavor is balanced by a fairly smooth mouthfeel. This is not the most unique barlywine I’ve ever tasted, but it is still wonderful.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Pours clear reddish amber with a medium creamy beige head that dissipates slowly with great lacing. Aroma is citrus, pine, caramel, bread. Flavor is the same, nice citrus and resinous hoppy, light malty sweetness. Finish is medium bitter with the abv coming through in the far finish. Mediumbody. Quite nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours with a lightly haze bronze-amber hued body with a lasting medium sized off-white head. Aromas are of crystal malt, brown sugar, sawdust, sandalwood, pine, citrus, raisins, dried currants and resin. Flavors are bitter, tar, caramel, green hops, raw, bitter, grassy, toasted, medium esters, strawberry. Almost tannic in the bitterness. Dry finish. I guess my preferences are out of line with the crystal content and hops in most west coast barley wines today. Quite full carbonation (higher 2.6s if I had to guess), dry finish, full bodied and warming.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle from Belmont Station in Portland, OR. Pours a clear amber colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, light tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is pretty solid. Biscuity and toasty toffees with a nice earthy and piney hopping. Brown sugar, grapefruit and pineapple citruses with a few resins, caramel, touches of red fruits, and barely a hint of cocoa. Flavor is similar. Fairly hop forward with a good amount of piney and earthy hops, but a solid toasty and biscuity toffee malt backing. A few resins from the hops with some grapefruit, brown sugar, and deep caramels. Finishes dry and bitter with a nice toffee note. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a softer, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really enjoyable barley wine. Well hopped with a good amount of piney and earthy grapefruits, but a solid toffee malt backing to balance. Great beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Aroma of smokey malts, hey, and a slight funk. Flavor is malty with a bitter hoppy finish. Nicely balanced but a little boring.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy amber with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, lots of resinous and citrusy hops, and some honeyed malts. Flavour is exceedingly hoppy for a barley wine, with loads of citrus hops, barely a hint of caramel malts just to provide some body and a hint of balance, though this is a hop bomb all the way. Very enjoyable, highly drimlably boozy hop bomb. Good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. Rich amber beer with a dark cream head. Nice pine and grapefruit aroma. Pine and grapefruit flavor with cocoa. Medium bodied. Pine and grapefruit linger with malt and cocoa.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma has mellow notes of caramel and cracker with a hint of a burnt, smokey caramel. Low fruitiness, similar to golden raisins and dried apricots. There is a bit of citrus and peach with some pine. Lacks the rich, complex malt undertones that I would really like to see here. Little to no alcohol in the aroma.
Appearance is what you would expect from a barlewine. Burnt copper with some amber red hues. Slight, light tab head with surprisingly good retention.
Flavor is sweet with a lot of biscuit and cracker. Some sweet caramel character with a hint of burnt toffee. Fruit is present but slight. Hop notes are a lot more present in the flavor. Lots of pine and a moderate amount of orange citrus, some faint peach. Moderate bitterness, not as assertive as I would have expected. A rich of a spicy alcohol note in the finish.
Mouthfeel is moderate and possibly a touch thin but creamy. Very low astringency and moderate carbonation. Only a touch of alcohol heat.
Overall it's not bad, but it's not great either. I guess I expect more from Drake's. No flaws, but nothing that jumps out and wows you either.
