COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
after years of scallywagging about and dallying with any style that caught its fancy, good ole JR is returning to it’s original form, an American Barleywine. Originally crafted as a holiday brew that Drake’s brewers could get behind, Jolly had all the warming powers of malt and alcohol, minus the strange holiday beer ubiquitousness of overpowering pie spices, and finished with the open handed smack of bold Northwest American hops. The 2012 Jolly Rodger is full-bodied with rich caramel malt undertones and mild biscuit malt character. Sufficient additions of West Coast hops balance the malt with pine needle aromatics and satisfying bitterness.

Bottle shared by oRos. Pours amber with a short off-white head and a red ale type aroma. There is a bitter smoked malt flavor that turns fruity. Complex and tasty.

65 cl bottle @ RIP Camp.
Pours clear orange color with a small head. Aroma of resinous hops, grass, caramel malts, toffee notes, wet cardboard and apricot. Flavor of resin, caramel malts, some citric fruits and goose berries. Bitter fruity palate with a bit too strong malty and resinous finish. Not bad though.

22oz bomber pours with a clear deep ruby red body supporting a nice looking half inch tall tan head of foam that leaves behind some decent lacing. The aroma offers up a great mix of cherry and prune and pine hop infused molasses as well as a yum inducing dank hoppiness and then a bit of booze at the end of the draw. The taste begins with a nice resiny bitter hoppiness that is woven together with dank, spicy, pine and a bit of citrus hoppy goodness. This is nice and resiny and still full of hop flavor. Behind the hops are modest notes of sweet malts, prunes and a hint of molasses covered dates. Dandy barleywine!

Aroma is sweet with caramel, resiny malt and some berry tones. Flavour is heavy and fruity with malt, caramel, some resiny notes and some vanilla. Also some woody tones. Too sweet, but then again what else can an American BW be?

Once again the D and G were on top of each other and I never understood

650 ml bottle @ RIP camp.
Pours a dark copper colour with a white lacy head. Strong aroma of resin, caramel, pine needles and biscuit. Flavour of caramel malts, strong resiny bitterness, pine needles, some citrus and spruce. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, warming, resiny finish. A heavy bitter barley wine, which I would love to taste from a fresh bottle.

"A very nice hop forward barlwywine that seems to change it stripes as it opens. Starts out with an aroma more akin to a IIPA than a BW. First sip gives you hints of honey and biscuit malt in addition to the hops. As it opens, it develops more malty sweetness in the aroma, and a distinct (and delicious) malt character very similar to my favorites from great Divide, Hibernation and Old Ruffian. Dangerously drinkable at 9.6%!"

11/23/13. 22oz bottle. Amber brown pour with a nice khaki tan head that sticks. Malty aroma, some distinct fruitiness, dark fruits, brown sugar, burnt toffee and caramel. Nice flavor, mellow, good bitterness balances with dark sugars and fruits, toffee, and biscuity malt. Tasty.

22. Pours a cloudy medium amber with minimal head. Nice clean sweet nose, pure malt caramel goodness. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Toasty caramel, toffee, and butterscotch on the mid palate. Long toasty finish.
