COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
after years of scallywagging about and dallying with any style that caught its fancy, good ole JR is returning to it’s original form, an American Barleywine. Originally crafted as a holiday brew that Drake’s brewers could get behind, Jolly had all the warming powers of malt and alcohol, minus the strange holiday beer ubiquitousness of overpowering pie spices, and finished with the open handed smack of bold Northwest American hops. The 2012 Jolly Rodger is full-bodied with rich caramel malt undertones and mild biscuit malt character. Sufficient additions of West Coast hops balance the malt with pine needle aromatics and satisfying bitterness.

Bottle. Polished bronze color with good foam. Aroma: nectar and malt sweetness, candy, floral, candied fruit, candy, toffee, raisins and other sweets. Taste: sweet white port wine, nectar, dried fruit, candied fruit, candy, toffee, noticeable alcohol-hop bitterness, slightly earthy and pine. Great beer!

Rating #3000.Brown color with a beige head, good retention with nive lacework.Aroma has notes of molasses, toffee, toasted malts and caramel. Flavor is mild sweet at the beginning, notes of caramel, ripe fruit, some plumbs. Mild bitterness in the final with a creamy and smooth mouthfeel on palate. Also some caramelish hints are present with the alcohol hidden by ripe fruits.

From a 650ml bottle on 16/12/2015 (another early Xmas gift from my wondeful wife). Pours a cloudy light amber with a small head. Has a big malty nose, with heaps of caramel, toffee and butterscotch, with some piney hops in the background. This is a very flavoursome beast - sweet malt dominates, with caramel, toffee and honey, with some rye bread in there as well. This is countered by big resiny piney hops. While you can tell it’s a big beer, it’s still quite easy to drink. The texture is a bit syrupy with modest carbonation. This is a bold, complex, lovely and impressive barley wine.

10-SEP-2015, bottle @Delirium Hoppy Loft, with Ulkløbben. Hazy amber with lasting off-white head. Very malty. Chocolate - does that come from aged hops? Spice, malt, caramel. A bit tired and a little dusty perhaps but still a very nice drink.
