Bottle. Cloudy burnt orange pour with an off white head. Enticing caramel malt aromas. Shit, this barley wine has potential, but it’s tough to get pass the dominating grapefruit and grassy hop bitterness. Undercurrents of tasty caramel malts and muted orange liquor. Good mouthfeel and body.

22oz bottle, shared by DanielCoor. Mostly clear reddish amber color. Good thin khaki head. Solid lace. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Kind of creamy. Nice spicy hop profile. Some chocolate. Light dark fruit. More sweet taste, though not cloying at all. Light bitter. Nice spicy hop, kind of earthy. Great stuff.

On draught at Drakes. Dark red-brown with a good bubbly head. Nice crystal malt aroma, and flavour. Pretty good, though a little 2D. Smooth and hides the alcohol reasonably well.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 elihapa (1488) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - MAR 28, 2013
Drake’s Jolly Rodger 2012 1/5/13 notes: Bottle, $6.99. American Barley Wine, and shows its tried and true colors well. Toasty, piney aroma, robust and with hints of black cherry. Flavor is simultaneous wallops of bready, kilned malts and floral, piney, resiny hops. Could detect a fairly classic CCC possibly Simcoe hop blend, nothing nouveau here and that’s fun. Great beer.
