Great winter beer. Smells awesome, lot of herbs. Pouts black with brown head. Smooth taste, a little bit of a hoppy aftertaste. Had on tap.

Tried at toncatcher’s T3 tasting. I’ve been very eager to try this for some time. Very mellow and sweet. Excellent. Very easy to drink.

T3 from AlohaC. I liked this one a lot. Medium brown in the glass, with an off-white head to ring and lace. Warm and brown sugar nose. Sweet and boozy. Smoooooooth in the mouth. Really, 20 year old bottle? Oldest for me by far.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 StefanSD (1586) - Lakeside, California, USA - APR 5, 2009
UPDATED: APR 8, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of alohac. Pours a light brown color with no real head to speak of. The aroma was dark and musty with peat, oak and some walnut. The flavor was that of a slightly oxidized barleywine. Finishes long and dry. The palate was slightly thin. Overall: Somebody said that this was a 20 year old bottle. if so, this has mellowed out real good for a 20 year old bottle. Thanks christian.

12oz, thanks Christian, this is the very first bottling of jolly rodger and the bottle came from AlohaC via owner/headbrewer of drakes. Thanks for another tick from a very good friend but also a cool dude on Ratebeer. Pours brown with some bubles. Nose is sweet and boozy. Taste is sweet and became a really nice barleywine, at least 20 years out.

Tried this on tap at The Red in Santa Cruz, CA. Black pour with small tan head. Aroma of molasses really hits you, then the flavor goes to some caramel and coffee. Good stuff, very drinkable.

Bottle provided by Rodger himself at the RB Sity Beer party. Rich molasses color and nose, with brown sugar and caramel added into the flavor. A bit earthy in the finish. Quite nice.

Courtesy of lunaticharness. Dark brown, minimal head. Big malt forward aroma, sweet caramel and peat, flavor much the same. One dimensional malt bomb, but not cloying at all. Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Very well done, easy drink.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 jarspag (605) - Orange County, California, USA - FEB 3, 2008
On tap at PP Carlsbad. It said double red under the title - but considering the taste and abv - I have to assume this is the correct entry. First reaction was "whoaaaaa". And not really a good whoa, but an intrigued whoa. The flavor started out very intriguing with sweet molasses, smoke, and a heavy dose of licorice. It soon warped into a nasty medicinal like taste that I just couldn’t come to enjoy. Just putrid. I couldn’t finish the pint and regretably, have to give this a thumbs down. Stoked I got the chance to try it though.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 illidurit (1300) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - JAN 29, 2008
On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz.
10 oz pour. Body is a very dark brown. Head is 1 finger tall and a creamy beige. Very nice lacing.
Aroma is chocolatey with a bit of smoke and dark fruit.
Flavor consists of chocolate and fig, with molasses and smoke notes.
Body is full enough to support the richness of flavor here. A little overcarbonated however.
