Originally brewed by 20 Tank Brewery in San Francisco (1989-2000), Nyack Barleywine is an American Strong Ale. Dark amber in color, it’s white frothy head invites you into the glass. Deep, roasty, caramel mouthfeel with strong citrus esters on your palate. This is a Big beer with Big flavors of malt, hops and heat. We used close to 2000 pounds of different malts to make up the grist, and a total of 25 pounds of hops (Magnum, Centennial & Chinook). Enjoy some Bay Area history, and drink a Nyack Barleywine. We suggest it be served in half-pint snifters or goblets.

Draft. Boozy and raisin aroma thats light across the palate with a short finish. There is also a little sour in there too. Good barley wine but not particularly unique which is kinda dissappointing since its aged in Jack Daniel barrels.

Draft at Beer Revolution - Again no head on the pour because it’s a full sniftetr. Sweet aroma like limestone and red apples. Very hoppy flavor along with dark brown sugar. Not understanding why the rating is so low on this one. Reminds me a lot of a British barely wine with a touch of hops. More bitter on the back end.

Sampled on tap 6/24/2011 at Beer Revolution. This barleywine pours a deep orange gold color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head with minimal lacing and some retention. A medium to full bodied barleywine. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet, with a lot of brown sugar, candi sugar, maples syrup, molasses flavors. The hops are piney, citrusy and grapefruity. Milder carbonation, not that this beer needs much. There is a lot of sweetness balanced by a lot of hoppiness at the finish. Hide the alcohol fairly well, there is a touch at the finish. Very smooth tasting throughout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

On tap at Blue Palms. Pours with a clear, deep copper hued body with a small white head. Aromas are fruity, rye spice, caramel, sticky toffee, sweet, lightly hoppy. Fudge. Flavors are sweet, caramel, crystal malt, rotten orange and light oxidation. Borders on being cloyingly sweet. Brown sugar. Very warming. Tangerine, brandy. Light bubbles, with a syrupy, boozy texture.

A: The beer pours almost copper in color with a finger of white head. S: Intensely sugary is a good way to describe this. Brown sugar, caramel, molasses, and candied citrus. Floral and perfumey hop notes along with a little bit of grapefruit and tangerine. T: Very, very sweet on the tongue as well. Caramel, toffee, and molasses flavors with perhaps a touch of bread. Some citrus and floral/perfumey hops with very, very minimal bitterness to balance out the sweetness. M: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. O: This had potential, but just far too sweet to drink much of.
