Davelovesbeer (3), USA does not count Sep 14, 2007 Amazing taste...doesn’t have an overly "hoppy" bite like other IPA’s. Alcohol % sneaks up on you but it’s 10.4% make no mistake about that. Incredible color to this as well. No more out of the tap at Drakes Brewery but they distribute to east bay locations such as both Hopyards, The Bistro in Hayward, and Porkey’s Pizza in San Leandro. The one and only time to get it forever from this one special Drakes dist.
One of the best high octane beers I’ve had for sure
...............unless someone gets a hold of it and bottles it. ;) AgentSteve (757), Livermore, California, USA Sep 7, 2007 Updated: Aug 8, 2008This beer was practically orgasmic! Out of the tap at Drake’s this Friday night’s "Tasting" event. This was a Triple IPA, that the brewmaster, who had quit this month, put together. The manager at Drake’s told me that he used several different batch - end hops. The hoppiness and maltiness were in perfect balance. Color was mahogany with a fluffy head, aroma was perfect blend of hops, sweet malt, and caramel, with a touch of pine. The alcohol % was well hidden, and it was one of those beers that you taste and just know you are drinking something special. Reminded me a bit of 3Floyds Dreadnaught. If you are in the SF Bay Area, find a pub that has this on tap. You won’t be disappointed! Wish I could have again.
Re-rate, opened a growler from Friday, it was even better than I remembered! One of the best beers I have ever had. frankenstein (64), Livermore, California, USA Sep 13, 2007 Updated: Nov 10, 2007Great head! Amazing hop aoroma. Big hops, big malt, great beer. Unfortunately near impossible to get. jimbowood (720), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 6, 2007 Growler courtesy of the man himself, Rodger Davis. My 500th rating. As I drink this brew, I can’t help but be saddened by the fact that Rodger is no longer w/ Drake’s, and this is, as the name implies, his last brew. What a great guy and an awesome brewer. He is definitely The King of Hops, and this beer does not disappoint. Hop Salad, Jolly Rodger, 1500 Pale, Denoggonizer, IPA, and Whoamback are all extremely hoppy Drake’s brews that I’ve had the pleasure of sampling. All outstanding, but this may be the best. Extremely floral hop aroma and flavor. Very light bodied and drinkable. Dangerous as Rodger says this one is 11.5% (site says 10.4%) but it drinks like it 7%. I love it. All hops. Not the doughy malt that you find in some IIPA’s. I’m just glad I’ve got this growler all to myself.. Thanks Rodger. Cheers bro. If your half as good a golfer as you are a brewer, Tiger better watch out. hopdog (4564), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 18, 2008 On tap at the Freakin Frog - they freaked me out when I ordered this and they said I kicked the tap and they ’might’ not have another keg. Poured a deeper amberish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of tropical fruits, pine, citrus, skunky weed, and caramel. Tastes of tropical fruits, ’husky’, caramel, citrus, and caramel, and pine. Alcohol content well hidden.
