Fantastic spicy, smoky aroma. Dark brown with a nice brown head. Almost smells like an indra kunindra curry stout. Syrupy, mouth coating, brandy kick, smoky taste, packed with malty molasses flavors, slightly spicy aftertaste...really phenomenal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A - Served a dark black color with a thin finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of lots of smoke and roasted chocolate malts with some light earthy hops and some vanilla and oak. T - Starts off with some smoke and roasted chocolate malts with some earthy hops. Through the middle, more roasted flavors come through with some vanilla and oak. The finish is a mix of smoke with some roasted malts and earthy hops and a touch of booze. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming and smoky finish. D - Very drinkable. Very nice smoked Imperial Stout. Good smoke and roasted character and great balance overall.

More aggressive than I usually like in a smoked beer, but drakes imperial stout holds up well against it. Bold roasted stout flavors pair nice against the heavy smoke backdrop.

Sample at GABF 10/11/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. This beer pours black with a medium thick tan head and sticky patches of lacing. Aroma of smoked malt and coffee. Full-bodied with a smoky character and notes of burnt malt, coffee and hops. The finish is charred malt and coffee. Good beer all around.

On tap at the Beer Revolution Anniversary. Pours a very dark brown with a small light chocolate head that settles to a ring and leaves some light lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoky meat, some chocolate, and roasted malt. The taste follows with smoked meat, light chocolate, and roastiness. The finish has a bit of bitterness and is quite smoky. Quite dry overall. Light bodied for an imperial stout with low carbonation. Overall, this was quite an enjoyable beer.

On tap at Drake’s Barrel House pouring up very dark with mocha head and leaving behind a full sheet of lacing. The aroma offers up chocolate, dark roasted malts, some burnt malts and a faint bacon sense that might only be my imagination conjuring up a bit of smokiness. The taste delivers bold dark roasted malts, sweet malts, some black strap molasses and then flowing into a mix of dark roasted coffee and burnt malts. Into the finish the modest ABV influence causes it to warm a tad and then there might be slivers of smoky bacon noticed from time to time. This is a really bold roasty brew where I’m struggling to find some influence from smoked malts.
