Collaboration between Drakes and Faction. Debuted San Francisco Beer Week 2013.

Takes you to both those moments of aromatic pine-exhultation as distinctly, tree-like notes of woodsy pine resin marry with orange-like aromas from Citra and Amarillo hops in the kettle and the dry-hop. A simple base of American 2-row and light crystal malt let the hops and the tree flavors blossom to intriguing and delicious levels.

On tap @ Drakes. Amber in color with some white foam. There’s a lot of citrus going on here, but certainly a good dose of pine and resinous hops, too. Some mild sweetness of toasted grains and caramel malts. Plenty of bitterness on the finish, maybe some herbal qualities, and bread. Light pineapple and orange marmalade flavors. Maybe a touch sticky. Pretty decent, though.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours cloudy amber with a thin beige head and a pine aroma. I swear this beer tastes like a pine tree. There is a resinous malty flavor with some honey and bread. It’s medium-bodied with a light perfumy finish. Complex and interesting.

On tap at Drakes. It pours a nice golden color with a white head. The aroma is surprisingly balanced with some noticeable foresty spruce and pine, but not overpowering the rest of the beer with some tropical fruit and light bready notes. The flavor is the same. Floral and woodsy, dry with some nice tropical notes and a soft, bready background. The body is lighter… kind of like an APA with not as much bitterness as I expected. I was a little worried when I heard the concept of this beer, but it turned out way better than I thought.

Tap. Pours Clear amber, small white head, decent lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, ever present herbs. Flavor is the same herbal, not sure what, Rosemary? --- AHHHHHH Juniper! Light bitter. Light body, refreshing.

Draft at drakes. Clean clear dingy honey golden, thin but tight lasting head. Nose is hop forward, but a different hop profile...piney, herbs, spice, juniper, more pine needles and pale malt. Piney Christmas tree hops, light juniper, cracker malt with just enough caramel in there to add a faint sweetness. Solid.
