Cask at the Express Tavern, Kew Bridge, 26th Oct 08. Ultra clear amber but no head. Slight sulphurous Burton hard water aroma. Malty kick and ok weight. A drinkable enough session bitter.

1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Handpulled cask at the Express Tavern, Kew Bridge. I havent tried Bass for years. I can remember when it was still brewed in Burton Unions. I heard that this pub sells a lot of it so I thought I would give it a go for old times sake. As I expected it is now just a token amber fluid linked to a once great name that sold out for short term gain.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at Horsley Lodge, Derbyshire. I hadn’t had Bass, either cask or keg, for years. I found it to be adequate; I was just pleased that there was a cask beer available at the wedding reception I was attending. It is not dissimilar to other Marston’s beers but mostly lacking the unpleasant sulphur quality. Its flavours are fairly pedestrian malt with a bit of hop bitterness on the finish, nothing special.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, 3/6/08. Amber coloured with next to no head. Light earthy hop, caramel aroma with a hint of sulphur. Flavour had a touch of sweetness with some fruity malt and a very short bitter finish. I am told by the older generation that this was a great beer - it isnít now. Just about drinkable.

Cask (The Anchor, Cambridge)
Past its prime, flat, not quite off, but definitely oxidised. Could be tempted to rerate, but my memorues of this are not that wonderful anyway.
