3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kidmartinek (1849) - austin, USA - APR 18, 2008
Dark black, small light tan head, excellent lacing. Smells like coffee, and vanilla, imagine that? Also smells like dark roasted malt. Has a strong vanilla taste, but it’s good, unlike the Breckenridge attempt where it was just kinda weird. Other flavors include oak or pecan. Mouthfeel is heavy, slightly creamy, and develops a dull bite on the finish. Coffee lingers in the aftertaste.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mora2000 (2965) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 28, 2010
Sampled on tap at the brewpub in early May 2010.
The beer pours a black color with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with some vanilla. As the beer warms you get more mint and chocolate notes. The flavor is strong vanilla, chocolate and roasted malt. Medium-thick mouthfeel and low carbonation.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 thirdeye11 (4092) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 7, 2010
(draught) jet black pour, some light tan carb but low. Nose of vanilla extract, chocolate syrup. Taste of chocolate syrup, vanilla extract (too much), and more vanilla. Undercarb. If this was bottle conditioned it might rule.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 angrypirate06 (1158) - Texas, USA - JAN 2, 2010
On tap. This was labeled as simply "vanilla porter" and wasn’t nitro, so not sure if this was a different beer. Black pour with a small head. Aroma is brown sugar, vanilla and coffee. Flavor is ash, coffee and earth. Slight sweetness on the back end.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pintsize (1042) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 12, 2008
2-10-08 tap
Black brown in color - a bit thin looking - with decent head. Smoky vanilla roasted smell. Flavor is similar just toned down - vanilla is there and the roasted malt hints are in there too, but just masked a little more. Palate is a bit thin and watery but drinkable nonetheless.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 lb4lb (2026) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 11, 2008
Pours a deep, rich black color with a light but short lived beige head. Smell is strongly of vanilla and astringent coffee. Taste is very influenced by the vanilla to begin with with strong coffee in the finish that lingers for a bit. Pretty nice beer with a bold flavor. (not served on nitro)
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Walt (2448) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAR 11, 2007
Pour is black with a thin brown head...smell is sweet vanilla...taste is sweet vanilla...mouthfeel was thick and chewy...finish is vanilla with maybe a touch of alcohol...while you may not think that this rating is descriptive, I have to say that everything I wrote about this beer is 100% accurate...true story...like getting the shit kicked out of you by a vanilla bean is sort of how I feel about this one...no longer served on nitro.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 gswest (2) - USA - JAN 19, 2007 does not count
Great for those that like vanilla, not subtle for those that don’t. Great color, head retension, alhtough coudl be a bit more balanced at times. Great beer overall with no off-flavors when I have had it.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 grat (433) - ST. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 10, 2004
I hate this brew. It sucks. Looks great, palate is excellent. However this bad boy is awful. Far too sweet to be considered beer. More like melted chocolate. I think they serve it on nitro which also maes me want to puke.
