Pours dark red with very small beige colored head. Smell is fruity, malty and hoppy. Taste is alcohol and caramel, fruity malt and hops. The alcohol was pretty apparent in this, I thought, and I was not a fan. Seems I am the only one, so maybe I ought to rerate it...

6/1/09 notes: on tap, Draught House. OK, I’m officially on board lovin this beer. Intense soapy-citrus hop nose, followed by flavors of understated fruit sweetness, lychee and much hop bite. This is an instant success for the “extreme” Pale Ale style. I guess what I love most about this brew is that the hops come forward strong and fresh, yet you really can tell that this is not just another DIPA masquerading as a Imperial Red. The body is softer, mildly sweeter, and more “redder” in fruit, making for a great beer in general.

On tap at the Draught House. Deep ruby red brown in color with a good sized beige head. Aroma is of spices, floral, earth, hops and caramel. Taste is of spice, hops, grain, malt, grapefruit, oranges, caramel, and a light nuttiness.

Tap at Draught House. The smell is hoppy, pine, caramel, citrus, spices, earthy hop notes, and malts. The look is a cloudy red color with a good beige colored head. The taste is a nice hop bitterness rounded by malt and caramel edges. This put the other house beers there to shame.

Piney citrusy nose. Deep Amber / red color. Malty / hoppy flavor. Nicely carbonated. Super easy drinking. One of my all time favorite D-house beers.

Tap at Draught House.
Pours a solid mahogany with an aroma of acorn-laced hops. Biting, hoppy, plant flavor with grapefruit blossoms in the finish. Nice, spreading mouthfeel. Niiiice.

Dark cloudy red head holds at a thin tan. Full resinous hop aroma. Sweet red ale flavor. Huge hop presence. Medium light creamy mouthfeel. A very, very good beer for which there is no explanation why you are not driniking it right now.

Tasted March 10, 2007 at Draught House (with free brauts!). 16 oz. glass, opposed to usual 20 oz because of its 8%(+) ABV. EXCELLENT - up there with Kick Ass Brown Ale (Albany Pump Station - Albany, NY), which is my favorite house beer ever. Double Red is a cloudy and strong red ale with ESB/IPA qualities. But smoothed out by the red. Seriously delcious. Bites slowly. You feel it quick. Smiles all around.

(16oz) Pours a deep, beautiful red. Light head. Taste is strong and a bit sweet; a range of hops and toasty malts. The taste/amount of hops reminds me of some strong English Ales/IPA’s I’ve tried. This was the first of the three house brews I tried. Very good.
