grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA Jul 6, 2006 The sample of this I tasted was the quintessential american pale ale. I mean this thing was off the chain. Dead on for what I would consider true to style. Apricot colored beer. Foamy head that trickles wayay but slightly lingers. Nose is phenomenal. Nothing better than this. Piney c-hops. Pine trees and new rubber. Hot hops that are acrid in your nose. Malts are nonexistant. One might consider this an IPA until it goes into your gullet and then...and then...the paper thin sweet cracker like malts cut through the bitterness. Paper thin and deadly the malts in this beer are profound...not complex...but profound for certain. Palate is supple. Good beer.
ansermadide (254), Kyle, Texas, USA Aug 4, 2008 (On tap at Draught House on August 2, 2008) Draught House’s Northwest Pale Ale sits before me, an orange-amber color. Semi-cloudy, barely carbonated. Bubbles appearing from nowhere. Its aroma is pretty hoppy for a pale. There goes the nose, submerging itself in the beer again. Its flavor is light, barely sweet. A lot like a hoppy amber. That’s about it. Just short of an IPA. Good, and just hoppy enough to hold its own. Well-crafted, too. kidmartinek (776), austin, Texas, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours full dark copper with a small white head. Mostly spicy, hoppy aroma. The flavor is full and mild, but hoppy at the same time. The texture is full, has a good bite, and is slightly creamy. The finish is tasty, bitter, bland. BeerBelcher (800), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 8, 2008 In my 2nd attempt to visit the Draught House pub I was finally successful (first time they were closed) and had time for a beer with a local friend, and this was the beer I chose. I was glad I did, as this is a very solid APA.
Appearance was a hazy orange-amber with a pretty abundant head. Smell was very hoppy and bitter with a healthy dose of citrus/pineapple aroma. Flavor was more of the same: extremely bitter dry hoppiness with some citrus notes trailing. I would agree that mouthfeel is a bit rough, but still this is a really good APA.
I don’t know if I’d seek out Draugh House just to have this beer, but I would recommend both Draught House AND this beer. oreogobbler (202), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 30, 2008 Citrus and nice hop aroma. Light cloudy orange appearance cream colored head. Sour citrus with bitter hops and a dry finish. The palate is very dry and a little rough. Some gape fruit residue stuck to the roof of my mouth. That is probably something I could live without, but it’s an alright beer. slimchill (694), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 30, 2008 Draught. Musky peach aroma. Cloudy orange with a small offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Spicy hop bitterness with a dry citrus finish.
