Tap. Poured a deep dark black color with a tan Aroma is nothing but smoke. Taste is in your face smoke at first then smooths out to a crisp maltyness.

Draught at brewpub. Nose is heavy with smoke in front of clear chocolate and coffee notes. Opaque absolute black with a thick tan head. Smooth palate, creamy and at the same time slightly biting. Flavor is fantastic, just the right amount of smoke interplaying with dark malt sweetnesses. A very successful smoke beer.

12-17-07 tap. Black with an overflowing tan head. Smells of roasted coffee and malt. Not much smoke in the smell or taste. Just tastes like a brown or a porter - nothing fancy. Palate is a medium creaminess. Not very thick, and not very thin. Very porter-esque. Bitter finish - can taste some alcohol. Not bad at all.

Rich black pour with a small light tan head. Smell is big and roasty coffee like malt, with a slight smoke presence perhaps, but very light for the style. Still quite aromatic and nice. Flavor is very mildly smoked malt with roastiness and a lingering mild bitterness on into the finish. Mild bitterness overall with a solid, thickish mouthfeel and low, crisp carbonation. Nice smoked beer, but very lightly done which keeps it extremely drinkable. Recommended for sure.
