2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 highlandlad (1319) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - JUN 11, 2008
Ah Milano, home of high fashion. I spent a holiday there promenading the main street in eager anticipation of the moment when my prominent cheekbones, buns of steel and rippling stomach would be recognised by a passing talent scout who would whisk me onto a catwalk, shovel obscene quantities of drugs and cash my way and invite me to sleep with Naomi, Linda and others of their ilk. Oddly, this did not eventuate, which shows how much Milan fashion scouts know about talent. Enough to support a multi-billion dollar a year industry, obviously, and enough to keep the riff-raff out. Wankers. Speaking of talent,
you don’t have to be a scout to recognise there’s little on show in this beer. Yet another sweet, malty Mediterranean lager. Cheap, grainy aroma backed up by some sweetish malts and buttered corn. Sweet and malty flavours - too sweet to be refreshing, IMO. Low bitterness. No off-notes but it passes without leaving any real impression. Just Heineken doing what Heineken does. (33cl bottle from Liquor on Parade, Kingsford. BB 3/09)
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 raymondwave (931) - FINLAND - FEB 14, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2008 Bottle 0.66 l and can 0.33 l. Pale yellow, firm white head. Malty nose with some hoppy freshness. Flavor is malty and dry. Slightly peppery aftertaste with crisp and lively carb. Not hop(e)less by any means, but not exactly a treat either.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 toddbates (95) - USA - JAN 10, 2008
not the best or the worst beer I had in italy. the flavor level is akin to that of san benedetto (a sparkling bottled mineral water)
1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - DEC 24, 2007
NorCal December ’07 - Thanks to one of the regulars who brought this back with him on a recent trip to Italy. Damn, this beer blows. I guess having to choke this crap down makes you appreciate the better beers out there. This was really hard to drink. If you plugged your nose and refrain from smelling the putrid corn and moldy, wet hay you might be able to delude yourself into thinking you aren’t drinking something this awful. Color is your typical, pale lager garbage. Medium head with no retention and melts into nothing. Mouthfeel is mineral water like. Cereal and corn in the flavor. Awful. No need to waste anymore words on this crap.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Marko (2977) - Split, CROATIA - DEC 8, 2007
0.66l bottle (brewed at the Assemini, Sardinia plant apparently) at the Scout Pub in Samobor Poured a pale golden colour with a medium sized thick and persistant white head, Extremely lively carbonation. The nose was kinda nice, herbal hopiness and a touch of dust. A bit weak though. The taste was soft, smooth and watery. Malt/corn sweetenss, somewhat fruity (very faint dried figs among other things), weak background dusty hopiness... a touch of metal. Hoppy aftertaste. Passable, somewhat pleasant, but dull and not all that refreshing. Heineken Italia’s main beer, brewed at 4 out of their 5 breweries apparently, and yeah, it’s as mainstream, harmless but dull as that title could signify.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 malfino (20) - pinzano, ITALY - OCT 24, 2007
This beer has a remarkable malty and grainy taste. This aromatic combination makes it rather unique to almost any other (italian) pale lager. Light bitter with a smooth finish.
