Bottle - opened the night before -- may have affected flavor. Pours a darkish brass -- rather pale for a dunkel, I’d say. Quite sweet malts dominate flavor.

Bottled. Clear amber colour with mediumsized slightly off-white foamy head. Leaves nice lace. Aroma is caramel, some yeast, wood, tealeafs mild nuts as well as some freshly cut grass. Flavour is strong wooden along with some herbal notes as well as mild yeasty notes as well. Quite nice and pleasant. Not that much Dunkel in it... rather a Land- or Kellerbier.

Appearance: Small yellow-amber head, fast gone over foxy-amber beer with a greenish shine Aroma: Woody nose, with very soft sourish notes, a bit nutty and undergrowth aroma’s Flavour: Woody, leafy, bready, Maillard, non-sweet liquorice, rootspices, sporting a faint bitterish finish. Palate: Light to medium bodied, quite carbonated MF despite visual absence of carbonation; bit wry ending; mineral water quality. Overall: Nice…euh…. “Bernsteinfärbiges”.

Sample from a swingtop bottle, thanks David. Small unimpresive head, crystal clear amber colour, bland aroma, some yeast, light herbal notes and maybe a touch of caramel coming through, maybe it was a bit too cold. Taste is sweet and metalic. This one doesn’t look, feel, or taste like dunkel and overall an unimpressive one dimensional beer.

I have this beer 14 days after the best before date, so I think it aught to be OK. The color is very beautiful dark amber and the head is creamy. The aroma has notes of slightly harsh butter and malt. The flavour has notes of malt, butter, caramel, candy sugar, a light sweetness and a slightly roasted, dry bitterness in the finish. I do not think the butter note is supposed to be there...

Swing top bottle, leaking just a bit. Brown color, hardly any head. Toffee, butter and a hint of licorice in teh aroma. Slightly sourish, buttery toffee flavor. Diacetyl, no doubt.Just a hint of pear. Dirty mouthfeel, but not an unlikeable beer.

(swing top bottle) Slightly hazy, amber colour with a persistent light-beige foamy head. Medium-sweet toasty and nutty malt aroma toffee and light herbal hops in the background. Moderately bitter, slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a crispy mouthfeel. Toast-malty taste, slightly nutty with soft notes of caramel; quite dry, sweet-bitter finish with a discreet herbal hoppy touch. Decent brew (19.02.08).

Bügelverschlußflasche (purchased at the Brauerei): Copper to amber coloured, slowly diminishing off-white head, rural malty-caramelly nose with a tinge of toasted malt and a good dash of herbal hops in the backrow; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, soft MF, herbal hops show up in the malty, slightly barnyardy finish. A rural franconian brew, more a Landbier than a Dunkel........
