COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drevlyansky Kvass is natural kvass made according to an old recipe. Made out of natural breadstuff through natural fermentation process, using no preservatives or other foreign ingredients, Drevlyansky Kvass is meant to bring back to the modern Ukrainians the taste of the true Slavic kvass. Kvass is one of the oldest Slavic beverages. As early as the 10th century, our ancestors were making different varieties of kvass: bread, honey, berry, and fruit ones. The simplicity of making and the perfect taste soon led to the total recognition of kvass by everyone in Kievan Rus – from the simplest of the people to the grand dukes. The name of the classic Drevlyansky kvass comes from the name of a Slavic tribe, the Drevlyans, that in the times of Kievan Rus populated the territory of Ukrainian Polissya, where nowadays this wonderful beverage is made. The most important features of Drevlyan kvass have always been the healing water this land has always been famous for, and the unique ancient recipes. Good at the secrets of the native nature, rich in great forests and fertile soil, the Drevlyans were well known for their good health and spirit. They were heard of not only all around Kievan Rus, but also in mighty Byzantium, reigned then by Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus… One of the sources of that amazing strength of mind and body has always been our people’s most beloved beverage – the famous Slavic kvass. Made of vivifying bread and healing water, kvass was irreplaceable both at a prince’s banquet and on a family table alike. Nowadays, Drevlyansky Kvass is bringing us back the true taste and the healing qualities of the popular ancient beverage. For unlike lots of other kvass products available at the nation’s market, Drevlyansky Kvass is made following a traditional recipe and of natural ingredients only. Professionals point out that the kvass made of natural breadstuff by means of natural fermentation has excellent taste and quenches thirst easily, positively affecting the body, restoring its strength and strengthening the immune system. True Kvass Drevlyansky – the time-proven recipe for sound health!

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2011 Reddish brown. Nice sweet flavour of molasses. Not quite as good as other kvas I have had but definitely a nice refreshing drink.

5 Definitely a kvass aroma, the rich but sugary rye malts. This one’s slightly tinged with hints of what seem to be rubber and burnt plastic. Sounds bad, but isn’t.
4 Gotta love that rich reddy brown and frothy head.
5 Slightly sharp raisiny retronasals. Not so big, but definitely a pretty clear malt-loaf taste, including a dab of butter from the lactic fermentation these guys use.
3 Not as sticky as soft-drink "kvass", but still feels quite sweet, and also a little watery and crisply carbonated. Finish has a gentle dark breadiness, but isn’t so bold.
11 I’m a sucker for a kvass. This one’s not all-round great but is a great thirst quencher despite its sweetness.

bierkoning (8109) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - DEC 19, 2008
Plastic bottle, bought in the Russian shop in Nordhorn. Rye and apple syrup in the aroma. Sugary sweet and watery with rye, caramel, husk and strawberry juice. Sticky, but not that unpleasant to drink.

Medium coarse offwhite head shrinks rapidly. Red-brown body with carbonation. Syrupy caramel-and-rye aroma with notes of corn. Sweet watery taste of corn and rye, faintly caramelly, with a syrupy end. Sugar leaves stickyness on the lips. Bland, no bitterness or other resistance, but not bad, either. (1l PET bottle from a produkty in Lviv.)
