3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
650 to small wine glass, beer pours a turbid brown with almost no head. I’m not gonna lie, it looks pretty greasy. Thankfully the aroma of this is pretty mindblowing; sour and funky, lots of brett notes, rotten fruit, citric fruits, candy. A bit of booze too. Very complex, smells exactly like the Belgian offerings. Taste wise, it’s sour driven with not much sweetness to counter. Of interesting note is the fact that the hops are lurking in the background as well which isn’t common but a nice touch. Lots of subtle grassy notes with a nice sour punch. Palate is thin mouthfeel and a bit watery, more body would be great. Nice and dry though could use more carb. Alcohol undetectable. Overall, this really impressed me and of all the Belgian styled beers available that are locally made this one is extremely well done. I’m nitpicking here and there but this is fantastic stuff! Thanks for the bottle Patrick.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear amber brown with minimal off-white head. Strong sour aroma, mild sour funk, some mild apple vinegar. Same taste, not too sour. Quite light body. Good, but quite safe and therefore nothing amazing.

650ml bottle. Ruby red pour with big, bubbly head. Sour cherries, merlot, oak, strawberries, ripe green apple, funky yeast. Huge aroma, big flavour. Rich and tart; lightly sweet. A bit thin through the body with a Champagne-like mouthfeel. Anxious to see how this cellars...

Pours medium copper with little to no carbonation. Smells of funk with some sourness. Tastes of berries, with tartness and light sourness. Medium-full bodied with a smooth texture. One of the lighter, accessible, and more pleasant sours I’ve tasted.

On tap at alibi. What a treat. Hazy amber with no cap. Aroma of browned sour cherry, a touch of biscuit, and wood. Taste is sour cherry and dry wood. Greatly smooth and almost creamy. Greatly dry. Aged quite well.

On tap at Alibi room. Reasonably clear rusty brown with a small pale head. Aroma is sour cherry, sour plum, red currants, hint of oak and balsamic vinegar. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, medium-full bodied, sweet and sour on the palate with a sweet fruity finish. Taste is strawberries, sour cherries, plums, red currants, hint of brown sugar. Damn tasty.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: An oaky fruity amber ale. Ok beer but not much of a Flemish Sour.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed when approximately 1 year of age. Bottle sent to me by mcberko, thanks a lot Matt.
The look: Mostly cloudy dark amber body topped by a beige ring of foam.
In long: Nose is phenolic, warm mcdonalds apple pie,
Taste is dominated by a warm fruity flavor that I can only describe as baked fruits, grainy cereals, again the mcdonalds apple pie flavor, light notes of cherries, pie crust, good oak presence, alcohol very much noticeable at only 7.5%, canned fruits juice sweetness, a mild tartness, almost no sourness. I never had such a strong sensation of mcdonalds apple pie in a beer before. Medium carbonation with a medium oily body. As a Flemish Sour this is a failure, but as an oaky fruity beer this is actually inoffensively drinkable even if a bit oily-sweet. Meh, if actual birds of prey were that lame, by now America would probably be ruled by an adorable small mammals government.

Pours deep orange with an off-white head. Aromas of sour cherry, vanilla, oak, pineapple, burnt sugar, and acetic acid. Tastes are the same as the aroma, plus currants and a vinous note. Finishes dry and tart. I had one of these right after it was released in fall 2011, and unfortunately didn’t take notes on that one... but based on my memory it is a little more mellow and complex now. Excellent!
