COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With just enough dark malt to be black this Porter leans toward the dry side in its malt profile. The addition of a partial sour mash (not uncommon in pre-Industrial Revolution Porters) lends a subtle tartness to the bittersweet chocolate flavour that dominates.

Near total blackness, with a thin head. Rich chocolate aroma shows sweetness and a hint of dark sugar complexity with lots of nuts and whole grain bread. Soft body, actually lighter than expected. Lots of chocolate and some bread. Cocoa. The palate is perhaps not as developed as the aroma but a good porter.

Poured from a 650ml bottle. Ruby black with a great cappuccino head which lingers and recedes back to a thin but sturdy film across the beer. And some pretty decent lacing. Taste is bitter sweet, sour, with an ashy aftertaste. Cacao definitely. Not entirely too viscous. Good carbonation, mixes nicely in with the sour astringency. That said, it’s a good porter with easy drinkability, cool twist of sourness, and I bet this is even better on tap.

Right off the pour, this beer has a beautiful tan head that I thought would stay for a while but was gone by the time I started writing this. If I hold it to the light, it is brown in color but otherwise, this is a black hole not stone. First sniff I get a strong and smooth coffee that overwhelms any other scents I may find otherwise. The flavor is very weak for what I was expecting. The coffee is still there but overall very lackluster. It has a medium body that doesn’t hang around for long and is medium in carbonation. Overall, I think this beer may be a little disappointing to me due to my inebriance, but in the right place could be pretty good.

Pours black with a small beige head that mellows to a light ring around the glass. Aroma is deep roasted malts with a small amount of smoke. Taste is smokey, roasted malts with a little chocolate, coffee and a sharp bitterness that stings the palate. Definitely not sweet but very good.

650. Pours black with a towering rocky tan head. Loose eggy lace. Nice sharp roasty nose, a little charred but not ashy. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Roasty dark toasty charred mid palate. Definitely the un-sweet porter. Nice roasty finish.

Big coffee presence in the aroma backed up by malt sweetness. Relatively thin bodied with flavours of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. Slightly bitter, roasted finish that lingers. Easy drinking, smooth porter. Enjoyable.

650ml bottle pours black in color with about two fingers of light tan head that leaves some nice lacing behind. Aroma is roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is roasted malty bitterness with some sweetness underneath and a mild hop bitterness in the finish. Nicely balanced and very tasty.
