A drinkable platform to explore dark malt! The Blackstone Porter has ample body to support the flavours of chocolate and coffee derived from dark specialty malts. A surprisingly-quaffable session Porter, and the perfect companion to good conversation when the rain is lashing at the windows.

Appearance: nearly sold black with clear brown margins, one finger of dense beige head, excellent retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: coffee, chocolate, dark roasty malt, tart red berries, light lactic. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter, very light tart. (7/10) Palate: medium-full body, moderate carbonation, off-dry finish. (4/5) Nice. Smooth and chocolatey, dark and rich. Nice dark roast flavours, while staying pleasantly mild - a solid implementation from a solid brewer. In the background, I’m getting a near-lactic smoothness along with an almost raspberry-like tart - which, considering they’re pretty much opposites, is no mean feat. Can’t go (too badly) wrong with Driftwood in my experience, and this is another solid performer, if not quite world-class like Fat Tug, Pilsner Doehnel, or Naughty Hildegard. (Even if it doesn’t make me want to spank a nun. Aw, hell, who’m I kidding? I still want to spank a nun.) (15/20)

medium brown color. Creamy brown head that looks like an espresso. Very nice espresso nose with some chocolate notes. Smooth mouth, and I suspect this has been on nitro. Nice stuff

Okay head and modest swampy barley aroma. Flavour of watery coffee and barley. Watery on the mouth. Not too exciting.

bottle: pours a deep brown with some ruby tints, nice tan head for a porter.....roasty coffee notes dominate, some molasses and herbal dimensions......lightly bitter with light to medium sweetness, coffee and dark chocolate dominate towards the end, maybe some dried fruit......good carbonation and body for a porter.....very well structured porter...I’ll drink this one again

So, am I really loving this because I haven’t had a porter in 72 years? Could be. Either way this is pretty fine. Big roasty aroma that thankfully doesn’t come across stiff - this one’s smoothed out around the edges. Deep roast, dark dark chocolate, nutmeg, bakers chocolate, coffee, sweet raspberries, biscuit. No surprise that it’s quite yummo. Piles upon piles of roasted to perfection malts, deep dark choco bitterness that really dries the mouth up, faint berries, milky stuff comes in near the finish then just churns itself into the dryness. As it warms - and I’ve been letting it do that liberally - the coffee comes out more early on and obviously on the finish with a real black coffee with no sugar/cream impression. Very tasty. Just over medium bodied.

650ml brown bottle. 6% abv on the label. Dark brown with ruby notes, big creamy brown cap. Aromas of cocoa/chocoalte. Taste of coffee, roast and cocoa. Dark coffee and roasted bitterness at the end. A nice big, rich porter.

Very well done. Pours a rich dark and opaque black. Heavy and thick tan head disappears slowly. Nice and heavy roast aroma with cocoa, espresso and dark toasted notes. Rich and smooth with mild roast bitterness. Nicely done

Bottle: Poured a black color porter with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt with light dry roasted notes is interesting. Taste is dominated by chocolate malt notes with some dry roasted malt and a dry aftertaste. Body is pretty full for style with nice creamy touch and good carbonation. Not a style that I seek often but this one was enjoyable.

Dark brown pour with medium sized beige head. Aroma of malts, chocolate, hint of coffee and faint citrus. Taste of roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, faint coffee and a very faint tart sourness coming through on the slightly dry finish. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, nicely balanced, good porter.
