3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 imdownthepub (7491) - Banbury, - SEP 26, 2010
Cask conditioned at Moreton in Marsh Beer Fest ’10. Black with tan head. There is a smokiness on the nose which translates into a peat bog smokiness in the body, deep burnt flavours persist to a powdery dry finish. Pretty good although there was a mixed reaction at the table.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 29, 2011
Bottle. Dull, flat light brown. Deep overripe fruity notes on the nose. Fairly deep, fruity character, maybe some cocoa. Fairly simple character. Not my type of porter.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 3, 2010
BC, Driftwood Spars Hotel, Trevaunance Cove, Cornwall. Red-tinted, Cola-hued pour with a beige swirl. Nose conjures quite a sexy combo of liquorice, rye bread, dubbel-ish soft plummy fruit, Hubba Bubba, faintly incinerated toast. A bit sloppy, but busy with complimentary flavours (5 malts) of burnt toast, dark fruit, vanilla, and stewed apple. Good brew.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2010
Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, 1 December 2009. Deep red colour - certainly not a dark porter. Guess that fits well with the blood theme. Not much condition. Aroma is Bournville chocolate and roast malt. Some spicy, peppery goings on. Almost a touch of chilli heat. Pleasant enough, but seemed a little light, and maybe underpowered, for a porter.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2009
Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear BF 09. Ruby colour. Orange pepper and spice on aroma. A bitter with some spicy pepper. I know it says its a porter, but not convinced there is enough choc malt.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2009
A Mes rate. Bottle at Pigs Ear. Almost black, no head at all. Roasted malt, lots of chocolate, rather sweet and fruity. Run of the mill but drinkable.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 DonMagi (5599) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 14, 2009
Cask at the Pig’s Ear Fest ’09. Alround rating: Roasty burnt malt, fairly sweet and its not actually that dark, more dark red, little hop character, nearly completly flat due to bastardising the cellaring.
