Crooked Coast is inspired by the original Alt-style beer of Dusseldorf; “Alt” is German for old and the style a vestige of the days before lager yeast was discovered, when ales were what German Brewers produced. A marriage of the aromas of both German noble hops and caramel Munich malt, this quintessential session beer is defined by its delicate malt-hop balance.

Prima biertje met een hoppige nasmaak maar zeer goed te doen. Wat donkere karakter met lekkere aroma.

2013-05-04 - bottle via my niece, enjoyed in Port Colborne with my family to toast my father’s memory - we had just held his memorial service earlier in the afternoon. It was a lovely day. Alt bier. Hazy and bubbly cloudy burnt copper with an average tan creamy/foamy head. Grainy for sure, a little light fruit, some light acidity (hops?), some alcohol presence - a little phenolic, and weirdly I got maple sweetness. After the sweet and grainy aroma, I was astounded at how pervasively and aggressively bitter the taste was surprisingly bitter; bone dry, no sweetness at all (go thirsty drinking it!), taste reminds me of drought grass - the bitterness of despair, almost scorched by the sun .. not much alcohol, mostly just bitter, some strong alphas from the hop varieties. Solid, chewy mouthfeel, long, long grassy finish and an odd peppercorn heat in the aftertaste. Really interesting beer, glad I had someone to share the bomber with me! Thanks, Jen, for lugging this from BC.

Hazy amber color; huge head, difficult to pour. Light malt aroma with very light esters. Smooth mouthfeel; malt and caramel flavor, dry and sandy/dusty; average bitterness.
More Amber Ale than Altbier.

Pours a fairly clear copper with a fair white head that leaves good lace. Aroma is Munich malt, floral, caramel and brown sugar. Taste is caramel, biscuits, earthy, grassy, and a medium bitterness.

650ml bottle. Looks great, lively caramel brown, lots of head and lacing. Bready nose with some earth. Taste is lots of earthy hops over some light caramel malt. Not entirely balanced. Body is thinner than I was expecting. Overall, this was not the alt I was looking for, more like an IPVienna, (which I am not suggesting).

Real beauty! Pours light amber with lots of foamy head, good lacing depth. Nose is a bit quiet, some earthy notes. Flavours showing cereal, light brown bread, light dark fruit, some lightish grassy bitterness. Medium body with lively carbonation with a somewhat dry finish. Taste is light sweet low bitterness. Nice.

Thanks to rejean for this. Pours ruby brown with a frothy white foam. Aroma is caramel and earthy hops. Taste is rich caramel, earthy malt and a nice hop bitterness in the finish. Not exactly a Frankenheim but still very tasty. Very much "inspired by" rather than to style.

Pours a clear copper with a nice frothy white head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma of bready malts, caramel, sweet brown sugar and some floral hops. Taste is bready malts, biscuit, grass, earthy hops and a nice bitterness on the finish. Well balanced altbier that has a clean and crisp finish.

Draft. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex toasted balanced aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate toasted complex flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of average duration. Good drinkable brew.
