Crooked Coast is inspired by the original Alt-style beer of Dusseldorf; “Alt” is German for old and the style a vestige of the days before lager yeast was discovered, when ales were what German Brewers produced. A marriage of the aromas of both German noble hops and caramel Munich malt, this quintessential session beer is defined by its delicate malt-hop balance.

Deep amber pour with a tight white head. Very toasty, slightly sweet aroma with a bit of toffeeish character. A little bit of sweetness on the finish. Yeast has a bit of light fruitiness. Lightly sweet with a kiss of lingering sugary character. Warming bring up more fruit

Single bottle purchased from a BC Liqour Store in Revelstoke, BC on 09/05/2010. Colour: Light red with medium-low lacing. Quite clear. Nose: Lightly baked malt makes up the base, additionally some forest like hops (post a fresh rainfall) play a very nice second fiddle. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium-light bitter, light sour. Suttle caramel is foward. Some hidden fruits...like over-ripe red delicious apple and nectarine. Medium malt and light cocoa late. Lightly bittered finish. Quite enjoyable.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2014 On tap at The Alibi Room in Gastown. Nice head, and a very appealing dark amber color. Taste is citrus hoppy, with a bit of malt noticed at the end. A nice summer beer.

And Oct 11, 2014 at Judge Begbie’s Tavern in New Westminster. Same dark amber colour, beige head. No nose to speak of. Maltier than I remember on previous tasting. Nice.

650ml bottle pours amber in color with a 2 finger white head that leaves some good lacing rings on the side of the glass. Aroma is caramel, nuts with some earthy and citrusy hops. Taste is nicely balanced between the caramel and nutty malt sweetness and the earthy and citrusy hop bitterness. Medium body and carbonation providing a nice feeling on the palate. A very nice and tasty amber ale that is highly recommended.

Big roast aroma accented by green hops. Long-lasting white foamy head and consistent lacing follows this crimson brew down to the final drop. Medium-bodied, full-flavoured, lots of strong, tasty toasted malt with a long, satisfyingly crisp and bitter finish. Superb.

Pours a beautiful ruby red. Head lasts, a good sign of a good brewer. I don’t know if it’s absolutely to style but it does taste like an ale version of the German lagers, so I guess that’s the Hallertau and German malts. I don’t care if it’s to style really. If it’s not then it’s a hybrid. Or its own substyle. This is an exquisite beer and I’ve think they’ve perfected that ale profile, which call me crazy but is mushroom shaped. Is Driftwood the best brewer west of the Ottawa River?

A real summer beer! A nice crisp and citrus aroma that makes you think of a fresh beer. We have a very copper colour with a head that last when it is well served. The sparkling could be somewhat higher giving more life to the appearance, however, at serving temperature, the effect of the CO2 on the taste is well balanced. The taste is very harmonious and refreshing. There is a good mix of sweetness, bitterness and it is a bit salty at the end. Despite the colour, this is a light and thin beer that is highly refreshing. This is the kind of beer that respect the style and that I would hardly get tired of it.

Clear bright copper, big rocky off white head leaves definitive stepped lacing. Grassy floral hop aroma. Well hopped taste with a slight malt background emerging as it warms. Floral and fizzy. Unbalanced. Finishes dry and bitter. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)

Bomber from AkRiverside. Pours golden amber with off-white head. Aromas of toasted malt, caramel, and some spice. Flavors of some earthy spices, toast, and some caramel. Nice full body. Decent for style.
