Draught at Tap & Barrel, Coal Harbour, Vancouver
Hazy amber color; huge head, difficult to pour. Light malt aroma with very light esters. Smooth mouthfeel; malt and caramel flavor, dry and sandy/dusty; average bitterness.
More Amber Ale than Altbier.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Golden-amber with a thin head. Somewhat flowery with earthy, caramelly character. Smooth malty character, light caramel and toast with some floral notes. Not altbier at all, no matter what they say.

Draft. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex toasted balanced aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate toasted complex flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of average duration. Good drinkable brew.

So-so Driftwood bottle. Perhaps too mellow for me. Cloudy amber colour with lots of white lace. Carbonation right there. Sourish and citrus. OK mouthfeel, passable drinkability.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep amber pour with a tight white head. Very toasty, slightly sweet aroma with a bit of toffeeish character. A little bit of sweetness on the finish. Yeast has a bit of light fruitiness. Lightly sweet with a kiss of lingering sugary character. Warming bring up more fruit - okay.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Big bottle, thanks to Parksy! Pours an amber orange, slightly hazy, with a golden cap that leaves some early lacing. Initially the aroma is a little beguiling: some strawberry fruit with floral accents and some resinous notes. As it breathes a little, it evolves into perfumey citrus and sweet toffee. Lighter on the palate, with flavours of toasty malt and nice aromatic hops (orange blossom, tangerine) with a moderately bitter finish. A terrific session ale.

22. Pours a clear rubied medium amber with a big sudsy light tan head and plenty of webby lace. Very mild caramel and toast nose. Creamy light body; decent carb presence but very light on the tongue. A bit of tea on the mid palate, but not much, to go with the toast and caramel. Soft finish. Very easy drinker. Alt? Ale? Guess it doesn’t really matter.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013-05-04 - bottle via my niece, enjoyed in Port Colborne with my family to toast my father’s memory - we had just held his memorial service earlier in the afternoon. It was a lovely day. Alt bier. Hazy and bubbly cloudy burnt copper with an average tan creamy/foamy head. Grainy for sure, a little light fruit, some light acidity (hops?), some alcohol presence - a little phenolic, and weirdly I got maple sweetness. After the sweet and grainy aroma, I was astounded at how pervasively and aggressively bitter the taste was surprisingly bitter; bone dry, no sweetness at all (go thirsty drinking it!), taste reminds me of drought grass - the bitterness of despair, almost scorched by the sun .. not much alcohol, mostly just bitter, some strong alphas from the hop varieties. Solid, chewy mouthfeel, long, long grassy finish and an odd peppercorn heat in the aftertaste. Really interesting beer, glad I had someone to share the bomber with me! Thanks, Jen, for lugging this from BC.

Bottle. Fruity malt aroma. Dark cloudy amber, lacing head. Light dry roast, fruity base, a hint citric hops. Medium to light body, mellow mouthfeel Lacks a little bit oomph to be a alt, most German ones I had had a herbal or heatherlike quality to them and a bit more body. but not bad at all.
