COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed entirely with barley grown and malted on the Saanich Peninsula by artisan maltser Mike Doehnel. This “winter batch” is revealed by one of the most unique Belgian yeast strains in existence. The result is the flavour of the sun, rain and soil of Vancouver Island.

Thx Sean. Poured out a big stupid frothy white cap with filthy lacing and a clearish yellowy brew. Creamy citrus nose, oranges and to a lesser extent, lemons. Very fresh aroma with a thin pepper base. Reviewing is hard when you have a wicker waste basket on your head. Tasty when cooler, not so much after some time... well, still tasty just not as much. shit. i drank all my beer. Well, I’m not going to fake the taste part but it was decent enough. Fin.

In short: A clean, crisp and lemony/tart Saison style ale. Very good session beer
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh 2 months after release. Bottle sent to me by mcberko, thanks Matt
The look: Almost clear blonde body topped by a persistent small white head
In long: Nose has some lemongrass, distant notes of bananas and light rustic notes. Taste has the main thing I’m looking for into a Saison and it is attenuation, very well attenuated beer. Crisp bready pale malts, very low sweetness sensation, lemongrass, countryside flowers, hay, grapefruits juice, fresh abricots. Not much bitterness to talk about, the finish is dominated by a refreshing citric and dry tartness. Clean and crisp with a soda-pop style carbonation (when cold) that turned in to a real lively belgium Saison lively carbonation. I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I don’t understand the low score on this one, not a single good rating. Honestly, when I got up this morning I had no intention of being the only person with the right opinion, but sometimes things just work out the way I plan.

worthwhile to try farmhouse. Finally B.C. business picks up, by having a French title that works after having to put in on everything though noone needs French out here. Yellow body with lots of foam head, lacey. Farmhouse aroma, thouh hay and grassy. Smooth mouthfeel. Not too drinkable.

Not my favorite style, not much of a fan of that cloying, Belgian yeast... found this one a little sour, dirty mouthfeel, dry and bitter. Blech.

DuffMan (4428) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - APR 22, 2011
Bottle, shared by Parksy with me and Jeff. Hazy golden pour, lively white head with medium retention. Aroma is very malty, hay and cooked noodles. None of the expected citrus or spice in the nose at all. maybe freshness is a factor here. Flavours are somewhat lackluster for a saison too, muted citrus and dried flower notes are masked by bland pale cereal malts. Just okay.

Bottle from Liberty Wine, 10th St., Vancouver
Hazy yellow pee color; small head. Aroma of laboratorized Belgian yeast, light chamomile and hay, light plastic, light medicines; it kinda misses the point for being a Saison, or Farmhouse Ale as promised on the label. The mouthfeel is quite dry, there are light lemony tones; the bitterness is high; some traces of Belgian yeast, but not enough of its character. Mediocre.

Bottle. Slightly cloudy and pale gold. Nice big head disappears quickly, leaving a ring. Medium carbonation. Bready-yeasty-musty aroma right out of the bottle. Taste of mild hops with yeast, bread, mild musty and muted fruity flavour. Simple but tasty and refreshing.

650ml bottle from 16th St Liquor in West Vancouver. Pours a very light yellow with voluminous, pillowy white head. Aroma has an earthy sweetness to it, pear, dusty malt, citric, yeast. Flavour is an intriguing mix of fresh cereal malt, a hint of spicy yeast, sharp background note of hops. Finish a pleasing bitterness and an earthy warmth.

Pours a murky light yellow colour with a nice foamy white head. Aroma is sweet farm hay and yeast. Taste is nice crisp sweet very easy to drink with a bit of bitterness near the end.
