Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Light amber color. Light caramel aroma. Caramel flavor, but quite weak and dry, and the bitterness is almost disturbing, too long hop infusion?

Clear amber color, small steady beige head, lace. Aroma has caramel and nutty maltyness and citrusy hops. Medium-bodied. Lemony-citrusy front, then caramel and some fruity notes. Light acidic taste in the aftertaste.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Orangey-amber. Thin head. The aroma is malt-accented and lightly spicy with caramels and white pepper. Caramel, earthy, light pepper and coriander on the tongue. Well-balanced. A subtle beer - not saison but tasty anyway.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A golden amber saison with a thin off white head. In aroma, a sweet fruity spiced malt with cardamom, catnip, a bit off. In mouth, a nice smooth peppery malt, with lemon grassy, chamomile, interesting. Bottle bought at Steamworks Wine Store. Tasted with the Bartowel crew at Pushkinwow’s, March 23, 2012.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Amber coloured beer with a creamy white head. The aroma has a little bit of yeasty spiciness. Sort of oddly sweet and an unusual plasticy phenolic character that I could definitely do without. Some light black pepper and a touch of alcoholic heat. Sweet and spicy flavour along with a little bit of lightly rancid flavour. Meh - this yeast needs some work.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Derek’s bottle and he has confirmed better on tap. Good summery beer, yellow with bubbles and creamy, soapy head, lacey. Pepperywhite, although it says black pepper. A little funky tasting, yeasty aroma.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
My Bottom Line:
Herbal hops, rustic cereals and orangey fruitiness merge in this soft and mineral Saison.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the misty amber.
-This was not nearly as accomplished as their flagship Ale.
-Effervescence was prickly and the mouthfeel not entirely authentic.
-The doughy yeast and its lightly fruity esters somewhat clashed with the chosen malts, producing a green, unripe flavor.
Bottle; thx Stephen!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2010-02-26. Murky dark amber body with a modest off-white head. 3+ Dry aroma is spicy, grassy and hoppy. Flavour is similar, spice (pepper?) is fairly pervasive, modest grassy hopes throughout and a sweetish pale malt undercurrent. Average plus palate. Decent, but the overall impression is a bit too dry and grassy for my own tastes. Bottle at Volo, Toronto

Bottle at Paul’s saison tasting. Pours a lightly hazy browned orange with a thin white head. Big fuzzy musk, old wood and closets. Finishes with a bit of vinyl, soft fuzz musk. Decent, not amazing.
