3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (8243) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 31, 2012
A golden amber saison with a thin off white head. In aroma, a sweet fruity spiced malt with cardamom, catnip, a bit off. In mouth, a nice smooth peppery malt, with lemon grassy, chamomile, interesting. Bottle bought at Steamworks Wine Store. Tasted with the Bartowel crew at Pushkinwow’s, March 23, 2012.

Bottle. Shared at Volo with, among others, blankboy, garthicus and tupalev. Hazy light amber-gold with an average diminishing creamy/frothy off-white head, nice lacing. Somewhat floral aroma, a hint of funk and while sweet, it’s definitely pungently spicy/yeasty, a saison for sure. Taste is slightly sweaty (whatever that means) - dry, pungent, somewhat boozy, with a hint of apricot and "me" (this is transcribed from a noisy, fairly drunken voice memo on my phone, I am not sure what I meant) - somewhat watery and at best weak carbonation - dry in the finish ... not bad, but seemed a little underwhelming - I would welcome trying it again under better circumstances, as I like a good saison and this might qualify.

Hazed amber with lots of nice lace. Clean saison aroma has white pepper and flowers. Soft palate. Very drinkable. Lots of green tea in the flavors! Finishes dry, and floral, with good hop profile. A friendly New World saison.

Derek’s bottle and he has confirmed better on tap. Good summery beer, yellow with bubbles and creamy, soapy head, lacey. Pepperywhite, although it says black pepper. A little funky tasting, yeasty aroma.

22oz bomber. Light yellow in colour with some haze. The aroma is saison like but light. The taste is doughy bread with a strong hit of black pepper and a little citrus. Not nearly as complex as I would have hoped but at 5.5% I dont know what I should have expected. This is an admirable effort but tastes less impressive than other saisons from other North American brewers. Decent but not great.
