The second release in our Bird of Prey Series. This Oud Bruin-style sour ale is a balance of gentle malt, delicate acidity, and barrel ageing. Enjoy!

Clear medium to dark brown - red amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is light heavy malty, caramel, wood, tart fruit, honey, maple syrup, light to moderate yeasty. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light acidic with a long duration, tart fruit, wood, maple - syrup, caramel, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130224]

Unclear dark brown color with compact head, persistent. The aroma is mildly sour, gentle funkiness, and with some hazelnuts too; a lot of carbonic gas; lightly dusty; later there is a note of yeast/cheese. Smooth mouthfeel, also very dry; light caramel flavor, a bit earthy and dusty, with moderate sourness, and low bitterness; the final is rather weak, and lightly astringent.
Balanced, and flawless, but not daring, and without fruity touch.

650mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark amber with a medium foamy off-white head. Aroma gives off lots of Belgian yeast, subdued sour fruits, and various spices - noticeable acidity in there. Flavour brings out tart deep dark fruits, with brown sugar, loads of Belgian yeast, and a medium acidity. The acidity becomes more pronounced further back in the mouthfeel. The tartness isn’t that overbearing, as the sweet malts are fairly heavy, but the malt heaviness is off-set by the high carbonation and acidity. Decent stuff overall, but no where near Driftwood’s best.

Bottle - Vintage 2011 - Sweet vinous and oaky notes with a bit of cherry. Clear copper with a rich white head. Big front end sour notes, vinegar, barrel notes and little else as far as flavor. This has aged very well.

Some cherry aroma. Cherry brown colour with a nice head and lots of lace. The sourness is secondary and adds up. Thanks Liam.

Nice wild. Sour plum and apricot. Mash malt. A little dose of bretta as well. A subtle note of tin. Finishes sour with fizzy carbonation. Pours reddish brown and without much head or lacing. Thanks to Liam.

Bottle shared by Tom10101, thanks! Clear dark red/brown pour with lacey off-white head. Aroma of very light acetic notes, mild cherry juice aromas, very light caramel/brown sugar. Taste is tart, very light acidity, light fruitiness, I would have liked to taste moar cherries. Wood could have helped too. Palate is light and well carbed. Good beer that could have used a little oomph.

Bottle (650 ml). Thanks to dresden! Lightly hazy copper with a small/medium persistent beige head and good lacing. Aroma of red fruits, light caramel and nuts along with some wooden presence and light sourness. Taste is slightly to moderately sweet with red fruits, caramel and light wood. Medium body. Alcohol is well hidden. Good Sour Brown. With a little more wood/acetic notes, it could challenge the best of the style.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at Liquor Plus Douglas for $10.99. Pours a gorgeous frothy yellow-brown head atop a reddish-brown body. Nose of sour cherry, red wine barrels and pears. Solid sour malty base, light palate and thin through the finish. As mentioned, a slimmed-up Bird of Prey. --- reviewed on RateBeer.com
