3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very sweet and nutty marzipan aroma with notes of plum and some alcohol apparent. Clear dark chestnut brown coloured body is topped by a light, fine bubbled tan head that recedes quite rapidly to ring. Flavour features vinous dark fruits, vanilla, chocolate and caramel offset by a lightly boozy character. Sweet nutty marzipan battles with a very nice roasty bitterness in the long aftertaste. Medium full body is slightly sticky. Low carbonation suits this well. Cellar temperature. Snifter. Bottle purchased at Toby’s in January 2013.

Bottle shared during the RBESG 2014 Sunday tasting at Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell. Vintage 2012. Pours clear, rich amber with a creamy tan head. The nose smacks of alcohol, with some ripe fruits and wood, along with fruitcake. Medium sweet flavor with some crunchy grains, bread, aged fruits, toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with gooey malts, dried fruits. Not bad.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, via trade with dresden (thanks Steve!)-- shared on game night with phantomhennes, heavylaevy, and TvM. Very hazy dark amber with a creamy golden head. Thick toffee malts, vanilla/butterscotch bourbon notes. Chewy and malty, very full bodied. Loved this beer, not sure why it doesn’t score higher within its style category.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thank you JefVerstraete! 2012 Vintage. Tasting glass from 650 ml. bottle consumed @ “The Tasting formerly known as Mons RBBAG I (2014)”. Reddish brown, little tanned head. Nose is too boozy with lots of varnish oak. Taste is thick sweet sugar, exotic sugar with lots of plastic, thick varnish, boozy, marzipan, lots of alcohol, heavy on varnish, amarena cherries,… Little carbonation, sugar body. This doesn’t feel right. It drinks still but why all the varnish etc.
