Three times the malt bill and five times the hops of a normal strength beer, this Barleywine tests the limits of our brewhouse and our backs! But the real struggle is in getting this massive brew to completely ferment, a true test of our skill and the vigor of our yeast. Consisting of 98% Pale Malt (with a bag CaraMunch thrown in for color) and just one hop variety, Columbus, this beer showcases these two basic ingredients in their most concentrated state. 32°

Enjoy this very special beer young, but save a few bottles for future winters. Enjoy not too cold, say about 13C!

650ml bottle, 2013 vintage. A little more rugged, a little less ready than Driftwood’s Old Barrel Dweller. Still incredible -- and I’ve heard it ages well (I haven’t the patience to find out). Love it now.

650ml bottle (Vintage 2014) pours a dirty amber color with a finger of off-white head that settles to leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits (probably raisin or wine grapes) with some grains. Taste is a dark fruit and malty sweetness with a citrus hop bitterness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, this brew is quite smooth considering it’s 13.1%ABV. Very well done and recommended.

Vintage 2013.

Superbe.

A huge beer. Dark pour, good sized head, lots of lace. Raisin, smoke, toffee in the aroma. Dried dark fruits, honey, pine, raisin, overripe plum, slight smoke. Big body. Another sipper, but i appreciate the subtlety behind this one after trying sucre in the same tasting.

Bottle, 2013 vintage. Hazy golden pour with a thin white head. Aroma is honey, caramel, a little boozy. Flavour is honey and caramel, a little bready, very smooth and nicely balanced.

Bottle. Vintage 2013. Apperance is golden yellow with light white head. Aroma is very hoppy, with lots of pine and sweet malty undertones. Taste is is bitter pine up front, followed by sweet malts, finshes with more sweetnees and some lingering bitterness, medium bodied, lots of carbonation. Very much an American barlerywine closer to a double IPA, reminds me of a toned down version of DFH 120, good stuff though.

Smells of floral fruity hops with a burnt brown sugar maltyness, slight bitter nose..pours up amber in color relatively clear for an unfiltered brew..deffiently fruity sweet front to it with a carsmel malty boozy finish.. very nice would drink again

22oz bottle of the 2012 vintage pours a murky amber with some creamy, white head. Nose has a mix of orange, malt, candy sugar, some sour wood notes, a little absinthe in that way, some raisin, mild booze, some floral notes. Flavor follows, sweet, toffee, caramel, some booze, some mild tropical fruit, some candy, a little worm wood, some pine and orange, maybe a little soap, raisin, some melon. This vintage may be caught in a weird down period. The hop is gone, so is the booze. What’s left is some oily alcohol and candy sweetness. Lacks the leathery character of further aged barleywines. If you’re still holding a 2012 then I’d say hang on to it for at least two more years. If you’re holding the current version then drink it.

Bottle (22oz $16): Pours clear ruby with small white head that fades. Smells like sweet dried fruit. Tastes very sweet. Then some warming and it finishes with a slightly metallic bitterness. Not a favorite, a little too sweet.
