Driftwood’s first lager!

Brewed entirely with luscious barley grown and malted on the Saanich Peninsula by artisan Maltster Mike Doehnel, and so named in his honour.

This dry, snappy North German-style Pils was lagered for 6 weeks and hopped generously.

Bright yellow and hazy, short white head. Aroma is crisp hop, slightly biscuit, slight yeast. Overall quite nice little, but certainly light on flavour.

Appearance: hazy pale straw with one fat finger of fluffy white head, excellent retention and well-defined lacing. (4/5) Aroma: lemon zest, grassy, biscuity malt. (8/10) Taste: medium-light sweet and medium bitter. (8/10) Palate: light body, moderate carbonation, crisp and light bitter finish. (4/5) Dunno whether this adheres all that closely to the style, but it’s definitely a lot of fun: quite bright and citrusy, with a clean crisp finish. Far more interesting than a more typical pilsener. (16/20)

650ml bottle pours a slightly hazy straw color with a finger of white head that has decent retention and leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is light citrus with some grass and grains. Taste is a light citrus and grassy hop bitterness with a light spicy note and a light malty sweetness. Light grainy mouth feel. Light bodied with average carbonation. Overall, a worthy brew for the style and recommended for those who like to have a tasty lighter beer once in a while.

A very good pilsner. Crisp, clean and refreshing with a pinch of lemon zest, grassy hops and grainy malts. A light floral yeast, light spice and heavy cereal notes. Light sweetness. Well balanced and very clean and refreshing

[6714-20140830] Bottle. Light fruity plastic aroma. Slightly hazy, pale yellow white body with a medium-lasting foamy white body. Pasta straw flavour has an odd light yeast finish. Medium body. Average. (6/3/6/3/13) 3.1

650 ml bottle. Pours a light clear gold with light head. Aromas of honey, citrus, and grass. And I also get Belgian yeast! Flavors of spicy/grassy hops, dried lemon, and bitter resin.

Bottle - Lots of lemon citrus. Cloudy yellow gold with a decent white head. Lemon, grass and a nice bitter finish. More like an IPL than a Pilsner and definitely more enjoyable than a pils.

2014-08-30. Pale yellow body with a small white head. 3+ Aroma of grassy hops and pale malt. Flavour is similar, grassy hops and light lemon over pale malt core. Average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent example of a style that is not one of my favorites. Bottle shared by wilco

Bomber. Clear paler yellow, fine white foam settles and mostly lasts. Aroma of lemon citrus and pils malt. Taste is bitter lemon, milder pils malt, dirty floral hops. Average carbonation, light bodied, moderately hopped. Dry floral soapy finish. Decent first effort... keep trying Driftwood! LF (Lagerboy Friendly)

Clear light straw pour with white head. Aroma is fresh, light bread, lemon, herbs. Good flavour and decent malt backing with citrus and herbal hops. More malt and body than your average pils.
